Wow I really like this game. Couldn't expect any less from EA.

Reminds me a lot of C&C generals, they probably even used a lot of the same textures and algorithms, but there do exist a lot of major differences.

One thing I really like about it is how your battalions gain veterancy and you get to keep those battalions throughout the whole campaign.

I'm really liking how you can build up your control points also, just allowing your army to get bigger and bigger.

Power points kick ass, I can't wait to be able to summon the army of the dead.

I really like how the game follows the Trilogy, however they did have to change some stuff around (e.g. Balrog fight).

I haven't even got to the good stuff yet, I'm gonna go play some right now.

I've been playing this too, its pretty fun. One thing that I am not liking is how some of the missions throw you into defending a castle under siege, waiting for my 2 or 3 farms within the castle walls to generate enough resources for an adequate defense then waiting for them to build up your resources a second time so you can push out into the map. That and only being able to set up defenses on predefined locations. It would be nice to build a tower next to a farm to defend it until I can send some cavalry to help. They almost always get destroyed within a few seconds of being attacked unless they have leveled up.

I started off really enjoying this game but you get to the point where you have amassed such a big army the whole thing becomes pointless because it is far too easy. I ended up assaulting the Black Gate and not loosing a single battalion! Overall I feel it was one of the better LOTR games to come out but no way near challenges big time RTS greats such as Starcraft.

I do admit the game does get kinda easy, a lot like Generals. But it can be fun just all out slaughtering the enemy.

I will admit Blizzard definitely has a better RTS engine down by far, no one could ever beat them.

Styro:

Boards like that where you don't start off with much money or land, just build all farms and cash will pile up quick.

I was having tons of trouble with Helm's Deep until I just made all farms for like the first 8 minutes then knocked half down and started mass producing.

Skeedo, you do know that this game uses the C&C:Generals engine, right?

I got the game for x-mas and its the only game I've been playing since then. I'm not even playing WoW right now because of it :p

Yes, its not as complex as some of these other RTS, but for someone like me who just does like all the micromanaging, its really fun! I think there is something to be said for the production value of the game, also. I think there is some real quality work done here. I'm right in front of the black gate, so I'm nearing the end of the good campaign, and am really looking foward to the evil campagin.

One thing, there was one map that took me about 2 hours to conquer. I dont know which one it was exactly, but it was one of the 4 right before the back gate map. Holy crap! It was so cool because it was kinda like a real battle where I gained some of ground from the orcs, and then they would get it back (just from sheer numbers), and then I would get it back. It was great and I refused to restart the map over just because I was getting pushed into a corner. Anyways, I'm kinda rambling. I am really enjoying this game. I'll post a full review sometime when I finish it.

Ha i'm about the same place as you. Yes I did figure it used the same engine as C&C. Have you tried online yet?
