from movie-mistakes:

<< When the orcs charge down the mountain, Legolas shoots his arrows at them. At one point, he has three left and doesn't fire any more, but in the shot by the lake, he has about 20, which then change colour to a vibrant green. [In the book, Legolas always collects the orc's arrows to use. So it's likely that they use green arrows and he picked them up after the fighting was over.] >>

I thought it was very well done and did a masterful job of following the books, considering how badly books usually get screwed in the on screen translations. There were a few bits though that I thought could use brushing up. So I'm nitpicking, so what? Where they're mindlessly scrabbling for mushrooms, hello? That looked so fake. And the wizard-war between Gandalf and Saurman was pretty fifties-movie style with better special effects. (See what happens when they break from the book? :)) What I missed most was the humor that's in the books, and the courage that the characters show. In the movie there's as much action as the books but without the breaks (which would make the movie way too long and boring, I know) but what bothers me is that the characters are almost always running in complete and utter fear, unlike the books.
