I dont believe this. How could People magazine give LOTR a bad review. They put for the bottom line: "Fails to enchant." What the hell were they thinking? Its definitely one of, if not the, best movie of 2001. Its not like people magazine are really hard critics either, they give plenty of meodicre movies good reviews. They complanined that LOTR wasn't realistic enough, and a movie only young boys will like...., ya ok, its not suppose to be realistic, its fantasy...

Well there's a few rotten reviews which is to be expected. I'm sure some of the best films in history also got bad ones....it's no big deal (even if the reviewer is under the influence of narcotics ;) ).
According to this site which keeps a database of all the movie reviews, there have been 102 good reviews and 5 bad reviews.

Yeah messed up....

on a side note, I still don't see the facination with "Memento" - I thought that movie was plain hollywood garbage....got sick after the first 5 mins of flashbacks...the movie was then just a loop of that. Such a waste of time.

They are complaining that fantasy isn't realistic enough? What a bunch of pitiful losers.

I would understand real critique, but this is just play stupid. I wonder if any of them have ever read the Silmarillion. IMO, its a lot more realistic than the bible.....

That's just stupid considering almost EVERYBODY, women and men, girls and boys included liked it! THey are entitled to their opinion of course but they are doing a diservice to their readers since the vast majority of them would like the movie. I think it's pretty plain that People bungled this one.

Most People magazine readers are illiterate and only look at the large, colorful pictures. Any movie over 90 minutes (particularly those based on books) would be too much.

Yup. I went with my girlfriend this afternoon (she's here btw :) showing her my AT addiction) and it was the first time she's seen it. She loved it and says it's in her top 5. I heard another group of teenage girls at the theater talking before the show and this was their third time seeing it!

I know. I went to the movie 3 times, and at the end of everyone people started applauding. Only movie I ever went to where this happened. I don't know anyone who didn't think it was at least worth going to once. Even my sister, and she hates these kind of movies.

Hold up, They are complaining that a movie, which is based on a fictional story, which revolves around elves, hobbits and magical rings isn't realistic? I can just imagine:

Stupid person #1: "Hey, whys that guy have pointy ears"
SP#2: "I think hes a vulcan"
SP#1: "Hey! they stole that from Star Wars! this movie is unoriginal!"
SP#2: "I'll say! I once read a book just like this. Somone should alert the police."
SP#1: "Hee hee, look at that unfasionable grey robe the old guy is wearing."
SP#2: "Yea, I heard someone in the theatre say hes Gandalf the gay."
SP#1: "pfff, homosexuals dress much better than that. This movie is UNREALISTIC

I don't look to People Magazine for anything... Go see Fellowship for yourself - if you don't like it, then you can voice your own opinion...

I don't really see why people can give it good reviews. Maybe a little bit of good, but the movie was only average. To be honest I was extremely dissapointed with it.

memento was freakin awesome, it gave you a "wtf" feeling until the very end when you were like "oooh i get it"

that is of course after watching it 2 or 3 times haha

it was a nice change of pace from the usual hollywood garbage =P

Because it was long, boring, and repetitive.

Kind of like a Presidental Debate :D

I agree. The movie was well drawn out. They are really going to have a hard time making $$ off the next episode without adding something.. The final episode of course, will be worth watching I guess.

It's not nearly an epic as say Star Wars ever was.. sorry.

You guys are funny. Well, KthxBye is. You other guys make me sad for better times and a better world.

This movie is raking in cash at the box office and the next two will as well. If Jurassic park 3 can pull in cash by God LOTR volumes 1-3 can.

I know that some people disliked it but the vast majority of people liked it. Most reviewers liked it as well. This is why Peoples should have reviewed it differently. This movie is so well liked in fact that even if the reviewer himself/herself didn't like it they should have realized that almost everybody else would have anyway.

Momento was a nice break from the usual Hollywood trash that gets spewed out. It was well executed and it had my FUTURE WIFE Carrie Anne Moss in it ;)

The remaining members did not "give up" ... they went after the orcs who took Merry and Pippin. They explicitly said "We will not abandon merry and pippin to torment and death.". Legolas did not have unlimited arrows. I bet no more than a couple dozen were actually shown being fired on screen. Also keep in mind he would've obviously replenished his supplies when they went to Lothlorien...it is a place where Elves lived.
And it ended suddenly because it's 1/3 of one story, it will be continued in the next 2 movies.

"unlimited" arrows? WTF? Just how many arrows did you see him shoot? I didn't see him shoot an excessive amount - very realistic that he could have been carrying that many. Ended suddenly? Are you following the story at all? Did you even read the book (even though I didn't, I realize how it's meant to be)? I think the movie was done extremely well, and couldn't have been any shorter. Yes, it was long - but you have to cover everything!
