LOTR at $200 million domestic after a week and a half

Wow! The Two Towers is well on it's way to making $350 million or maybe even more in north america. It's smoking Fellowship of the Ring!

In other news Catch Me If You Can isn't doing too bad but TTT still bested it by about $15m this weekend.

Gangs of New York is a box office BOMB...especially since people were hyping it so much. I still have to see it...was looking forward to it but seeing mixed reviews now.

Great flick.

The effects are the best I've ever seen. Can't wait to own all 3 directors cut versions and kick everone pout of the house one Sunday and watch away.

Methinks a lot of people would rather see TTT than DeCrappio...

Double that number when you tack on international sales.

More even. Two Towers is at $253m internationally thus far. (So $453m total)

TTT has an excellent chance of making $1 billion worldwide. Fellowship made $860m worldwide and TTT is proving to be a lot more popular.

BTW the only other film to make more than $1 billion worldwide was titanic.

edit: actually it's probably made more than $250m internationally because it was at $200m international on dec. 22nd...real numbers won't be in for a bit

in related news trying to find a copy of FOTR at your local video rental place is damn near impossible right now.

And multiply that by 20 when they release 50 different special editon dvd sets

TTT special starts on The WB in 10 minutes if anyone is interested. Behind the scenes and interview stuff...it'll be mostly fluff but should prove to be interesting 🙂

I think I was reading through Excite about this and they wrote that it might be this generation's Star Wars
rolleye.gif

I'm not so sure what "this generation" thinks... NSuck, nu muddle...

I'm already looking forward to the extended version of TTT and ROTK in the theaters. 😉

EDIT: spelling

The WB special was a rerun...but its still pretty decent. Not as fluffy as I thought it would be. Dominic and Billy are hilarious off screen..

Billy: "So they go from being prisoners of war to like the very bosom of nature. it kind of helps them become hobbits again"
Dominc: "Mmmmmm....bosom..."
Billy: "did i say bosom?"
Dominc: "mmm....yeah...."

😀

you dont own any of the DVD editions? :Q

😛😉

I can't believe how good a movie TTT is. I just got back from seeing it for the THIRD TIME, enjoying every minute of it. Over the last 5 years I've only seen Jar Jar Binks: Episode 1 more than once in the theater, only because I figured I'd torture my parents who don't experience movies too often.

I feel I could watch this another dozen times and not get bored. It has the classic features of any Shakespearean tale.

And for those that haven't seen the extended 30 minutes of FOTR, you're truly missing out. This is indeed an epic story that deserves all of the media attention, revenue, hype, and whatever else it can generate. Hats off to Peter Jackson and his superb team for an excellent job of script rewrites.

Two Towers = the best movie ever 🙂

Btw,I saw Gangs of New York yesterday and rather liked it,it's not anywhere near on par as LOTR2T but I don't think any film will be.

All I know is that two Leo movies in one week is two too many.

PS- 900 pcount.

Funny, I just saw GONY too and was happy that I had see the Two Towers first because it would have been a let down after seeing GONY and all of Scorseses brilliance....I will admit though that I am a big Scorsese fan and have learned to appreciate his style of film making.

I'm pretty happy that the LOTR movies are doing so well, not so much because I like Tolkien (though I did enjoy reading the 4 books a couple of decades ago) but because Jackson and the studio took a huge chance to make a true and beautiful work of art completely unlike any of the garbage Hollywood is busy churning out.

Kind of Like George Lucas with the original Star Wars and Raiders. Not at all like the commercial product he's carefully manufacturing now.

Amen to that too.

The director's commentaries and the extra features in the LOTR: FOTR extended DVD are simply breathtaking. I gained a whole new appreciation to their work.
