I have to ask - How did you lose your passwords?
Did you simply forget them, or did something happen?

I have to deal with this problem and the evidence right now is leaning towards a corrupted sam file (the administrator and user accounts should have had no passwords, yet they fail to work)

You don't want to delete the sam file.....just follow the instructions and use the password blanking thing....that works the best....

I found the problem I had with xp home, the sam file should have been around 20k, instead if was 256k
using a copy of ntfsdospro I was able to copy in the backup registry and solve my problems.
