Lost Office XP Key

I am getting ready to reformat my PC and I have lost my box that my Office xp came in. I have my office xp disc still though. I was wondering is there any way to use the current installed version on my PC to see what the CD key was so I that when i reinstall it I will have a key? If not what can i do about this problem?

If you have it installed on the machine you can get the key from the registry
It is in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration

Hi Dopefiend -
I just thought that if he was using a proper ver of Office, then, to save the hassle of playing around he would be able to use a key.

Not saying that he should do that if he is pirating.
But thanks for the advice anyway.

why not just call MS and they will issue you a new code almost like with Win XP.

Agreed, but his friend's key is just that - not his.

Not saying that he should do that if he is pirating.

Even if he has a legal copy, he's legally bound to use his key and nothing else.

If he was using a pirated copy he wouldn't be asking this question in the first place. 😛

As for the legally bound, microsoft wasn't legally bound to help me with WPA on my 8th reformat. So my $300 legal key was useless.
