Weird...
This is my problem...
USB' s show in device mgr, no error message there. But do not work
Error message when I plug in mouse or external HD. I am using WinXP Pro SP2. Everything worked perfectly before and then the mouse went dead.
Using an Asus K8N-E.

Things I have tried

1. Reinstalled MB's software
2. Tried every port
3. Checked in Bios to make sure they are enabled
4. Cleared CMOS

any ideas?
Thanks

I have not seen it. try using a boot operating system, such as knoppix. I think it has USB support. If it should but does not find your usb, then it sounds like bad hardware.

I've had this problem a lot on ASUS' latest motherboards...2 P4C800E-Deluxes, A7N8X-Deluxe...and another I cannot recall.

I couldn't fix the issue. XP would make the 'DING-DONG' sound like the devices were unplugged and then plugged back in...really frustrating with games, as I'd lose control of my mouse for a few seconds.

I stopped using ASUS all together. I have a couple friends who experience the same issue...

Bump for a hopefully helpful response to you and my friends. 😉
