Lost my mind and bought an oooold boat Friday....

I'm sure that will be a fun toy!
We have a '96 Bayliner 19-foot with about 130 hp and I wish that it had more on some days.

I do all of my own maintenance and repairs on it and despite what everyone says, it really isn't all that expensive. Just have to be careful and use your head.

This,
i got a seadoo with seized motor 2 years ago and rebuilding that was trivial.

Sure you can. My wife's old boss had a boat from about that era, somewhere in the 50-55HP range, and it had no problem pulling a skier. Heck, our 90HP pontoon will pull a skier and it's pushing a lot of size and water resistance.

I remember as a kid back in the early '60's boats just like this one with similar hp motors pulling skiers all day long. But this wasn't bought with skiing in mind. Both of us are long past our waterskiing days.

I agree......the motor is not much of a concern, except the lower unit with its electric junk inside. From what I've gleaned from a couple of boating forums, when it seizes/dies, it's dead.....complete lack of parts out there for it. So, it'll be taken care of and run until it quits, then replaced....if we own it that long.

Someone took good care of that motor, that's for sure.

Took care of all of it, really. While it's no show stopper, it's in fine shape and the motor is darned near clean enough to eat off of. Pulled the plugs today and while they showed the motor was running a little rich, they're pretty new, so maintenance has been done on it, routinely it seems. Drained the lower unit and relubed it, also, and the old lube was very clean.

Does the lower unit have a rubber impeller in it? My Mercruiser Alpha One stern drive has a rubber impeller that can break up and starve the engine from cooling water. Might want to drop the lower unit and replace it as cheap insurance.

I've had 3 Seadoos in the past 8 years and there is nothing like fixing them up and then blasting around the lake for a while. Sense of satisfaction + fun = big smile on my face!
