Lost MO in mail, how hard is it to get refund?

OK, last monday I sent a money order for over 250 dollars to someone in FS/T. I am in VA, he is in Deleware. It is still not there (8 days today), so I am thinking it was lost/stolen/eaten. Thank god the seller in this case is being very helpful and non-accusational, however I have agreed to send him another MO before the end of this week.

I was wondering if anyone knew about the PO procedure to get a refund on a money order? I have all receipts. What happens if the MO was stolen and has already been cashed? What happens if it hasn't? I really don't know what they can do, is it: they just check to see if it has been cashed, if it has not they give me my money back and flag that MO as stolen? or what?

anyone with any experiences with this?
any help will greatly ease my mind.

You can go to the post office and pay $2.50 to see if it was cashed. If it has not you have to wait 60 days, after 60 days you can request a refund.

They are supposed to ask for ID to cash it, but if it has been cashed you are SOL:(

I had a MO take about a month to get from CA to WA. It arrived the day I filed the MO trace and in an envelope other than the one I sent it in, with different stamps than I used...

ouch!
I don't understand how they can say they "guarantee against lost or stolen" then,, jeez I hope no one has it and cashes it. So what did you do? did you resend another money order, then when the guy finally got it he sent it back or what happened?

man, if someone steals it and cashes it I am screwed. I was diggin deep to get the money the first time, now to pay double, sheesh, I am really in troubly...

If sending any amount of money by mail, use Ceritified Mail + Return Receipt (around $3.50 in total)! It happened to me twice that I send two money orders via mail and it took em about 4 weeks to arrive. By the 2nd week I lost all hope and assumed they were gone. I was lucky tho because the total amount that I thought I lost was only about $20.

If you're speaking to me, no I didn't resend anything. In my situation I was almost doing the guy a favor in sending him a money order (he bought some stuff for me with flooze, at a small loss, in exchange for a money order from me. This was a day or so before flooze went belly up, so he came out ahead ;)). He was patient waiting for the MO...I was just a little peeved with having spent the time & money to send in the stupid MO trace.
