Where are the spoilers? I've never seen this movie before and wanted enough info that I wouldn't need to actually watch this since apparently its a horrid POS

go weird places.

leave good friends having given each other what they need emotionally yet never screwing even though the chick was indeed cute.

the movie was so drug out and boring. all i wanted was a sex scene. but no, I watched to the end for nothing.

Love the movie... the arcade scene, the food scene.... I like Japan.

I liked it. It's refreshing to see a movie that realistically portrays human relationships.

I wasted both time and money (rental fees) to watch that movie. I can't believe how popular the movie is and it sucks so bad. :roll:

Ok, what I said was kind of harsh. I just woke up and was feeling kind of $hitty, sorry. I realize the movie can be hard to swallow since it has a lot of slow parts, has Bill Murray in a non-comedy role and is strange, etc. However, I do think that people should leave their comfort zone of The Day After Tomorrow and similar brainless movies and appreciate Lost in Translation for the emotions and development it draws from the characters. IMHO the best movies are the ones that make you think and empathize the most.

Don't get me wrong, I like brainless stuff like Deuce Bigalow and other movies, but it really annoys me when people write off a movie because it doesn't do all the thinking for you or doesn't have an explosion every 30 seconds.

Don't you just hate that. I mean, you don't like the movie, but so many people do and of course they'll tell you it's obvious that you just don't "get it." So then you have to wonder, was there some deeper significance to this story that you're just too shallow or unintelligent to understand. Then you think, no it's just some artsy-farsty idiots pretending to be deep, but really the movie sucked and thier just posturing to appear smarter than you. Finally you realize that you're just not sure if there really was something there and you missed it or if it was just a boring story. Now when you reach this final phase, you have a couple of choices. 1. You can decide that you did understand it but it wasn't your cup of tea 2. You can admit defeat and proclaim "This movie sucks!" Of course, when you choose the latter, you must be certain that those of us who did "get it" will get this too. At this point, we can all say that like it or not, this movie made you think, and hey, wasn't that the point after all? Now clearly it's not the point, because this is supposed to be entertainment after all right? Well, is it? Anyway, just remember the "not my cup of tea" line.

I don't think there was any "deep" meaning to the movie. It would be boring to anyone who wants sex or violence. It was an emotional movie that dealt with feelings of abandonment, culture shock and being washed up. This is obviously not some people's cup of tea, but I happened to like it.

yea, best illustrated by bs art. you know. a blank canvas with a dot. someone will find that incredibly deep. i just think they are doing all the work of filling in the meaning when theres really nothing there.

i liked her previous movie, i just thought lost in translation was dreary, tacky and pointless. i felt no emotion but dissapointment with the movie. the characters weren't interesting and thus weren't emotionally involving. if it weren't for the fact that it was bill murry(always reasonably likable) and johanson*sorta cute and just interesting to watch..it would have been a total bomb. and no, i didn't care that it didn't have sex or violence. it just didn't have enough material for a full movie. abandonment/culture shock? oh, i think it was beat into the ground by the halfway mark. and no, i didn't watch the day after tomorrow.
