Lost in OC land: Can I OC this XP 3000+ setup

Hi folks,
It looks like there is more than one way to slice a pie. I read all the posts and got more confused.

Here is what I have:
XP 3000+ , Part # AXDA3000DKV4D - I know this means something to you
2 256 DDR 400 Kingston
ASUS A7N8X-E

At boot up, the BIOS report 166 DDR !

I know that the bios would allow me to change all sort of setting.
How can I go about getting the most out of this CPU, can I OC it. What would be the numbers I need to use? And what percentage of improvement that would be

One more question please, Which Intel CPU compares to this XP3000+ , I could not find anywhere a conversion map of AMD to Intel.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate any help since I am putting together a HTPC and need to be able to play the 1080i HD movies by MS (e.g. Coral Reef Adventure) - When I run it at 720p , it is fine, but at 1080i, the PC starts to drop frames, not much but still annoying. By the way, the CPU temp is 55 to 65 C BUT, at 1080i display for that DVD, it went up to 75C , stock HS/HSF? I just got a Zalman 7000-cu to take care of the temp issues, I am in the process of setting it, I hope it works.

Thanks again.

the BIOS reports 166 because the memory is running in synv with the CPU

if you want to OC, just change the FSB in increments of 5 mhz, boot into windows, run prime 95 to test for stability. increase your vcore if you cant boot into windows or fail prime

Is there iny limit on how high should I go with the FSB or the BIOS will stop me?

Thanks

You shouldn't overclock that processor at all, until you lower your temps by about 20C. 75C is WAY, WAY too high.

Barton 3000 and 3200 have a CPU core than runs up around 155 - 160 watts Vs the older cores ran no higher than 35 Watts.

It is normal for it to run around 60C . Sounds like the Fan over the CPU is either getting it's airflow sucked away by a Power supply Fan causing a vacuum situation ( I had to put a barrier between my CPU Fan and the Power Supply bottom Fan as it is just above the CPU on my ASUS A7N8X-X). My CPU actually went into thermal runaway and went up and over 90C and shut down until I blocked off the power supply fan flow.

AMD doesn't make any cpu that uses over 100 watts, at stock speeds. I don't know where you're getting your info from but it's wrong. Anyway, I wouldn't go blocking off my power supply's fan. If that's the problem, both of you should be buying one of these: ThermalTake cpu ducting mod. This will direct your cpu's fan intake up and toward the front of the case, so it receives air from the intake fan, and your exhaust fans don't interfere with it being able to intake adequately.

I just done installing the Zalamn 7000-cu , it is down to 40C.

I think I should be all set to proceed with OC. So, How far should I go?

Thanks folks.
