Today, i lost the alarm part of the keys to my car. im not really sure where it fell off, or how, but its gone. basically what im wondering is how i can get another one. the car is a 98 bmw and it was a factory alarm, so im going to call bmw in the morning, but will they be able to just replace the alarm portion of my key ring? do they know the right frequency from my VIN?

well i actually still have the key to the car, but just lost the part that arms the alarm. to make matters worse, the car is locked with the alarm set, so i cant even drive it.

The BMW Dealer "should" be able to rectify this. We just had a similar problem on a Honda, and the dealer was able to order a new remote and reprogram it for us.
Do you even have keylocks on your car?
If so, you could try to unlock the driver's door with the key, and then unlock the other door/doors from inside.

well, i have a key to the doors, but if i unlock them and open the door the alarm will start going off. so i dont think that will be a good idea

i've never seen people drive with their alarm on .. i'm sure it'll turn off.. unless it has some kinda immobilizer built into the factory system.

Sure, that shouldn't be a problem. It'll take like 15 mins for them to program it, but it shouldn't be a problem.

the prob is that i cant get the car there to have them reprogram it b/c the alarm is armed now

Unlock the driver's door with the key.(quickly!)
Get in the car.
Unlock any and all other doors.
Start car.

No guarantees, but this worked for us on a '97 Honda with an original alarm / keyless entry system.
YMMV

Try unlocking your car with the keys... it MAY disarm the alarm as well...

My Dad's Acura does this... when he locks his car with the keys, the alarm arms as well... and when he uses his keys to unlock the car, the alarm disarms... I guess there's some micro-chip or something in the keys...

in my 4runner, i tried that once, and i couldnt start the car while the alarm was on, but i didnt try unclocking all the doors first

so do you think if unlock the door with the key it will disarm the alarm? i call the dealer, and thought it would, but im still a little weary. i think im going to have a whole lot of mad neighbors if this doesnt work
