Lost blocks on HD

When ever I delete big file from my HD (> 1Gb). My HD does not show the deleted space immediately. Eventuly its shows, mean while I can not use the space I created deleting file. I have wix XP Home as OS. ANy tool or process makes HD space vacant immediatly

It should show up immediately - can you check how big the recycle bin is, and how big is the pagefile?
What hdd is it?
RAID?
How many hdds in the system?
IDE or SATA etc etc

Also, more importantly, maybe the space is there immediately - are you pressing F5 to refresh the screen?
