Jack and Hurley discover an alarming secret about Kate, as the marshal's life hangs in the balance and is suffering a lot of pain. Meanwhile Kate, Charlie, Sawyer, Sayid, Boone and Shannon ponder the island's mysteries they've uncovered and worry that telling the other survivors will cause panic. They decide to lie for the time being. Also, Locke's befriending of Walt disturbs Michael, but Walt is more concerned in finding his dog. Lastly, Kate flashes back to when she was arrested by the marshal in Australia.

Can anyone tell me what Kate was arrested for? Did the Marshal die? What was everone's reactions to it? In ep4 everyone seems to have completely moved on and there is no mention of it at all.

The marshal eventually died. They never said what Kate was arrested for, and only a few people knew about it (the doctor and the big guy IIRC).

There was no mention as to WHY she was arrested. The Marshal DID die. Jack believed that Kate's past was in the past, so they left it at that. I'm sure we'll find out more in the future, though.

There was no mention as to WHY she was arrested. The Marshal DID die. Jack believed that Kate's past was in the past, so they left it at that. I'm sure we'll find out more in the future, though.

So an entire hour that explained NOTHING???

They don't say why she was arrested.

The Marshall died. He was given the gun and tried to commit suicide but failed. Then the doctor finished the marshall off, even though he didn't want to take the marshall's life.

Basically, she hid out on some guy's farm for a few months. He turned her in b/c he needed the reward money, but she crashed the truck she and the farmer were in before the marshal could get her to try to get away. She stopped to pull the farmer out of the truck before it exploded and the marshal caught her.

She couldn't even handle a gun properly ("how do you eject the cartridge?")... she wasn't even the one to shoot the marshall when he asked to die. She had the other dude try to do it for her as she walked away shamefully.

But the marshall insisted to Jack that she was extremely dangerous and can't be trusted. *shrug*

i thought some other guy shot the marshall in the chest like a dumb@ss and the doc had to smother him to put him out of his slow-death, bleeding, misery. (that's the only part of the entire season I actually saw)

The question would then be... what did he have to gain ? He was going to die anyway... and he knew it at that point that he told Jack to be careful.

Lost filmed its first two days in the rain and bamboo forest along Old Pali Road where three survivors of a plane crash -- actors Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan -- on an unnamed and deserted Pacific island find the dead pilot hanging in a tree, a dog (which suddenly vanishes) and a child's shoe. They also shot at Waikane Valley filming, when six of the survivors, while hiking, are attacked by a charging polar bear.
