No, the fence was not set to kill. That is why eye patch guy is still around. As for locke... he was shot in the kidney... which is no longer there after his dad conned him.

Something tells me that he won't be around for season 3. That's not a spoiler though, just a hunch. I think Jacob or some force on the island will take him out. Locke doesn't have it in him to kill so it won't be by his hands.

Jack should have killed Ben on the operating table when he had a chance. He let his own personal agenda get in the way of common sense. Speaking of Jack, I'm hoping he gets back to his old self tonight because I've been sick of him for a couple months now.

He sure looked deader than a doornail to me what with all the foam coming out of his mouth and what-not. And plus don't you remember what he said that one time when the group was threatening to kill him in a previous episode? Didn't he say something like, "Go ahead, I've already died once today" or something like that? That's the one true thing that's probably come out of his mouth. No. . .no I say. . .don't believe him when he says the fence was not set to kill. He's a sly one he is. That fence was set to kill sure as my butt is hairy. And I bet the next thing Ben will try to say when John turns up alive and comes looking for his head will be something like, "but I shot you as a test, John. It was the only way I could know if the island favored you. The only way I could know if you really were the one!" And of course John will fall for it, gullible fool that he is.
 
The fence switch only had an ON/OFF setting... not a power level. I guess it could have had a power setting in some other building, but I think when it showed a close up of the switch (when young Ben escaped), it showed it as ON/OFF for a reason.

Despite how much Jack may dislike Ben, there are 2 things working against him in terms of killing Ben. First, he is a doctor and has taken the hipocratic oath. Second, as much as Jack might like to just off Ben, killing Ben could be against Jacks own self-interests if he ever wants to get off the island. Ben just knows too much that Jack wants to find out. He'll never get the info he needs from Ben if Ben is dead.

and THIS is why I strongly believe that "Jacob" is the same dude that brought Ben and his dad to the island many years ago. The guy that welcomed them on the pier. #1 That guy was done up in makeup which would lead me to believe that he is older/different looking (as to play the role of the current day Jacob). Also when you still frame the Jacob in the chair flash, you can see that Jacob has similar hair to that guy... They made a specific point to introduce that guy on the pier, and then again having Ben close his eyes after gassing everyone. That guy is SOMEBODY.

Yeah, when Ben was a kid there was only an on/off option on the fence. I helped design an upgrade for the fence during a summer internship in 1996. It's got power settings now.
