Congratulations on your weight loss . . . but please stop distributing false information; CNN (and their 15-second stories are scarcely better).

No responsible authority has EVER contended Atkins was not effective for weight loss. Hell if you want to be really successful try starvation. The facts just DO NOT support the Atkins diet as a healthy lifestyle. We've evolved as omnivores with DEFINITIVE micronutrient requirements. Flax and fish oils (the benefit is omega-3 fatty acids so you really need just one NOT both) are great supplements. Everybody should be taking them if they don't have diets rich in these oils. The greatest benefit comes from replacing sat'd fats from beef and dairy.

Vit C and Vit E are potent antioxidants. They have minimal if any effect on triglyceride synthesis. The aforementioned flax and fish oils are PROVEN to benefit cholesterol and triglyceride profiles.

Atkins #3 is an absolute necessity to avoid critical micronutrient deficiencies during the induction phase but that does not mean it is sufficient to support a healthy long term diet. If anything best evidence to date shows supplements RARELY provide benefits comparable to consumption of whole foods.

Amused (I think), said it best. It is the development of a healthy sustainable lifestyle (which includes diet AND exercise) that leads to health improvement/maintenance. Of note, Atkins most recent book makes dramatic revisions in his diet which makes it more reasonable as a long term plan. Unfortunately, few if any studies published are based on the diet he's currently endorsing.

I have a vegetarian friend who tried out atkins. He basically ate only soybeans and tofu for a month and a half. He produced more methane than a herd of cows over those two months. I would not recommend it.

NEED SUGAR!!!!! I like what Jeremy said of Pierce in the comic strip Zits:
"Your diet would send a hummingbird into a diabetic coma."
😀

I don't think I'm quite that bad. I just hope my metabolism doesn't plan on slowing down anytime soon.

but the brain works solely off carbs

Wrong. The brain can use and actually prefers ketones for fuel. I'll get the source if you want it. THat's why I feel absolutely great, and my mental capacity is as good if not better than before. And I have hardly any carbs in my system.

Carbohydrate is always the preferred energy source for the body, all ketones mainly do for the brain is lower chance of seizure in hyperglycimics (somehow the state of ketosis rids the brain of toxins, perhaps the brain is more efficient with ketones or simply isen't getting everything it needs, either way the brain is forced to work off them). Ketones are acidic and poisonous to the rest of your body and take a shrude amount of water to excrete. Ketosis causes vitamin D deficiency and decreased bone mass, it also weakens the immune system. I've lost weight on that diet and wish I had done what I do now (eating normally, salad, meats, fruits, veggies all in normal amounts). Once I lost everything I needed i started feeling HORRIBLE(your body just keeps eating away at itself), especially since I'm active. The diet is not healthy in the long run unless your keeping enough carbs in your diet to stay out of ketosis.

Ketosis is simply another way of starving the mtabolic process, and getting the metabolic process back to full strength and working well with carbs takes months, which is why people gain so much weight back so quickly after leaving any diet that deprives the body. If you can make yourself eat meat 24/7 I'm sure you can make yourself eat a normal diet, crash diets are nonsense. They still keep you eating improperly which is the source of 99.9% of all weight problems.
