Congratulations on your weight loss . . . but please stop distributing false information; CNN (and their 15-second stories are scarcely better).
No responsible authority has EVER contended Atkins was not effective for weight loss. Hell if you want to be really successful try starvation. The facts just DO NOT support the Atkins diet as a healthy lifestyle. We've evolved as omnivores with DEFINITIVE micronutrient requirements. Flax and fish oils (the benefit is omega-3 fatty acids so you really need just one NOT both) are great supplements. Everybody should be taking them if they don't have diets rich in these oils. The greatest benefit comes from replacing sat'd fats from beef and dairy.
Vit C and Vit E are potent antioxidants. They have minimal if any effect on triglyceride synthesis. The aforementioned flax and fish oils are PROVEN to benefit cholesterol and triglyceride profiles.
Atkins #3 is an absolute necessity to avoid critical micronutrient deficiencies during the induction phase but that does not mean it is sufficient to support a healthy long term diet. If anything best evidence to date shows supplements RARELY provide benefits comparable to consumption of whole foods.
Amused (I think), said it best. It is the development of a healthy sustainable lifestyle (which includes diet AND exercise) that leads to health improvement/maintenance. Of note, Atkins most recent book makes dramatic revisions in his diet which makes it more reasonable as a long term plan. Unfortunately, few if any studies published are based on the diet he's currently endorsing.
