I'll tell you, this diet has been wonderful. NO HUNGER AT ALL. I am not constantly craving anything. I don't feel hungry like I used to (as a resultof a balanced sugar level), and I'm losing weight! I feel great; even more clearheaded than I've felt in years. My slight touch of depression is gone, and I don't ever feel bloated anymore.

Just thought I'd share, and give a "shout out" to any of you thinking about or trying to lose weight. You can do it - carbohydrates might turn out to be the achilles heel for you, that it was for me.......

I'm currently on T-Dawg, and getting excellent results. No hunger, no muscle loss, no strength loss, steady weight loss. :) Low-carb diets kick ass!

Atkins diet is awesome. I hate people that say "u dont' get sugar" it's necessary balha blha. NO! COuldn't be farther from the truth. Did you know that 80% of cholesterol is made by hte liver, and only 20% u get from eating it? Moreover it's the ratio of good cholestrol to bad cholestral that's improtant, not how much you have. Not only that, the human body via evolution is meant to eat FATS! Fats = Good! (natural fats). Hamburgers or transfats are bad. SO are carbs, like spaghetti, bread, rice, potatoes. Point is, the diet not only makes u lose fat, but you are healthy in the process. ANd you can keep it off, so long as u don't revert back to eating ice cream and wendy's; buy one of his books! I referance it often for vitamin advice, antixodents, and diet info. I'm 20, i've never been fat or obese> I'm actually very thin 140lbs 5'9" Ever since i went on his diet I'd RARELY get sick, and when I did it would be for one day and very mild sickness. It improved my overall health, and was very conducive for putting on muscle at the gym. I Highly recommend it! He justifies everything for all you skeptics. But he's been saying it for over 20 years and only now people are listening to him.

Right on Krassus!

Thanks for the compliments guys.

I've lost 20 pounds in a bout 1.5 months. I've been doing the induction portion semi-religiously, but I'm always in ketosis anyway, so I think my body is very little metabolic resistance.

I don't feel weak at all. What I've been taking is magedoses of the following capsules: Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Flax Oil, Fish Oil, and Atkins' Basic #3 (I hate buying into corporate products, but this IS the most packed megamulti I've ever seen so it is a good deal for the discount i get it at.)

Here's a WONDERFUL thing I read on one of the larger lowcarb sites.
If you take a vitamin E and vitamin C capsule half-hour before eating, it will thwart any triglyceride production from the fats you eat.
Isn't THAT AWESOME!!!!

Remember that the Atkins isn't a long-term diet... you'll have to switch to normal healthy lifestyle eventually in the long-term since it will become more and more difficult to have the proper nutrition and health.

My ex was on this. Be forewarned, it is a lifestyle change, not a temporary diet. Go back to your usual eating habits, and the pounds will come right back. In her case, she ended up 5 pounds more than she originally was. good luck.

I'd rather not try it. I've lost a bit over 10 pounds in 1 month just by eating less. No hunger, no "rabbit food", but no bloat or lack of energy either. At this rate it'll take me at least another 3 months to reach my target, but meh...I'm in not hurry :)

Sounds too scientific to me. I don't know. Last spring I biked 16 miles a day and spent 30 mins on the treadmill, every weekday. And I lost 40 lbs.
I pretty much kept that weight off. I did start eating less too. I do eat less carbs now, but not zero. I don't like these extreme diets where you get nothing of one thing and too much of another. But since you guys are seeing good results, I am sure whatever negative side effects (if any) of the Atkins diet, are probably much less than the side effects of being obese.

Low-carbing CAN be a long-term eating plan. People misunderstand what the diet entails. Sever carb restriction is only the first part of the diet to get you losing weight - depending on how much you have to lose and how fast oyu want to lose it, you can stay in this "induction" mode for awhile - then the next step is to slowly reontroduce carbs to the leval at which you MAINTAIN your weight. For some, they will be able to reintroduce a decent amount of carbs and be okay, for others, (and usually the ones who were fattest in the first place), will not be ablet o eat that many carbs. Why? Because eating that many got them fat in the first place! Their bodies obviously aren't built for high-carb intake.

That's what peopel don't understand - low-carbing isn't some aberrant loophole to weight loss, its going back to how our bodys were meant to it. Did you know that we eat (I think it's 10x) more carbs in the 20-21st century than we ever have in any other century on this earth? It's a product of prosperity and gluttony.

Also, carbs are cheaper than protein.
Go to the store, pasta is cheap, potatoes are cheap, rice is cheap. Meat is expensive. Not sure about tofu. Looks nasty, so I never tried.
If you have discipline to eat a small portion of carbs with protein mixed in, and work out regularly, you will be fine. The Chinese eat rice with some protein, and most of them are fit. That's because they don't eat as much, and they ride their bicycles to work.
The main problem is portion sizes here in the US. Everything is jumbo.

Low Carb is a good way for really overweight people to loose weight, since they have fat to work off of. Once you get down to a weight that leaves you without a large amount of body fat you'll start feeling pretty horrible, that's why this diet is no good for the people who just need to loose 5 pounds. Humans need carbs, the processe of building muscle through protine then changing that muscle into cabohydrate is not only insanely slow compared to eating some simple vegtables, it's also toxic to the body. I've tried to adjust to a mostly meat diet but nothing works better than lettuce/meat diet. I agree that way to many carbs are eatin these day's, simply for taste, but the brain works solely off carbs and not allowing yourself normal vegitables/fruit can throw off your chemical balance quite easy. If you have fat to work with then this diet is fine, don't subject yourself to it to get lean, it wont work.

140lbs for 5"9 doesn't sound healthy to me. Sounds a bit too thin. And how come you were *sick* before? Was it normal for you to be sick before??

Its not usual to be sick more then 2 times a year I think, unless you eat something bad or go to heavy on the drink and throw up.

congrats to you BlipBlop but I would NEVER touch that diet. I'll eat what I want in good portions and train at the gym. Don't eat crap and burgers often at all. Can go weeks without any chocolates etc. I do go crazy on fruits though, but I figure thats alright. Should eat 5 pieces a day anyway.

I lost about 12-13lbs over 3-4 weeks on that but was having problems with low blood sugar. I'd get weak, shaky spells and stopped the diet. Just may not be cut out for everyone.

but the brain works solely off carbs

Wrong. The brain can use and actually prefers ketones for fuel. I'll get the source if you want it. THat's why I feel absolutely great, and my mental capacity is as good if not better than before. And I have hardly any carbs in my system.

Congrats Blip Blop! Did you work out also though? I'm thinking you didn't just lose weight by eating and just sitting around. Most of the public seem to get the notion that Atkins Diet == automatic weight loss. I prefer the balanced diet with exercise. I feel great and I like having regular bowel movements. :)

i need carbs for energy to workout so atkins is not much of a workout diet unless you're doing CKD.. (i think 1 day is carb up and the rest is no carb).. but otherwise it does work..

but a proper balanced/healthy diet and workout/cardio works aswell (a la body for life)..

Yay, thats great, good job! I haven't done the low carb diets, just been getting alot of exercise and watching what and how much I eat, and I have dropped 60 lbs in a year now. So I know how it feels to step on that scale and see that progress, it is really rewarding.

:D
