Loss of Copy & Paste functionality.

Recently I've been having trouble with the copy & paste feature where I'm unable to copy any text from any application.
I've tried it in MS Office XP, Metapad, Notepad etc... The Paste feature is greyed out whether I use copy or cut.

Usually it will start working again on its own, sometimes after a couple of seconds othertimes its 5-10 minutes. It seems to start when I copy a larger (large as in half the size of this post) amount of text only. Then it doesn't matter if I copy 1 character or a whole page of text it just won't work.

The only thing I can think of that I've changed recently is disabled a 2nd nic (Used to use ICS) and am now going through a switch. I can't see how this could cause the problem though.

Has anyone run into anything similar to this?

OS: WinXP Pro
CPU: Duron 800
RAM: 256

I would check your available RAM or cache. This used to happen to me every so often when the clipboard
became larger than the available memory. Didn't quit working, but it would take forever to copy even the
smallest things. You might want to figure out how to purge the clipboard as well.

EDIT: spelling

Yeah I haven't had a chance to look at the clipboard when it happens but I will next time. My RAM should be fine as its always text I'm copying and am not usually running any large programs. text editor, couple of IE windows etc... I'll check my RAM usage next time though, thanx.

I've tried the keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+c/x/v), Edit menu, and context menus. They all do the same thing. Copy seems to work fine, cut doesn't do anything, and the paste option is greyed out after a copy/cut.
