Losing your hair

I guess like many guys I'm 40 and visibly losing hair now. Like there is a very noticeable gap/thinning on the crown/front of my head. I'm just curious as to how you guys approach this should it happen to you? Just accept it as part of aging and age gracefully? Or do something more drastic like medication or hair transplants etc?

My hair's gotten thin. Not any kind of bald near as I can tell(I don't pay much attention to it), but definitely thinner. I don't care. Whatever happens with it is fine. I don't even buy expensive shampoo, so there's zero chance I'd spend money trying to defy time.

I just buzz my head at the shortest level of the buzzer. As long as you don't have a weird shaped head you should be good to go. It's like having air conditioning in the summer but make sure you invest in some beanies for the winter as you will now be insulation free.

I started going gray in HS and losing my hair in college. If it were something that bothered me, I would have a long, sad life..

I'm 34 and still doing ok in that department, but I do think I may have receded a little. Just not sure when it started or how slow it is progressing so I'm not too worried yet, I think/hope it's just a mature hairline. It only really dawned on me a few years ago that I'm getting old and hitting the age where I could very well start losing my hair though so been taking it less for granted and also keeping track of it better mostly for my own reassurance. Decided to grow it out and enjoy it while I still can.

I don't really want to have to rely on any kind of medication or product for the rest of my life, so if I do start to lose it I don't think I will do finasterade or rogaine or anything, but I would maybe consider a transplant when that time comes. Chances are though what I would do is go back to short hair once keeping it long just makes no more sense, and save up for a transplant, and also use that time to gauge how bad the baldness is going to get. Transplant only makes sense if there is enough donor area. If you lose like 90% of your hair then transplant won't really do well. By the time I'd have the money saved up I would then decide if I still want to follow through in first place. Maybe at that point I'd just be used to my look and stick with it. I don't know if I'd want to shave bald though, while I do think I have the head for it and could look good with a big epic red beard, it's just so much upkeep to be completely bald. It's why I have a beard in first place, it's less work. 😛

my hair just seems to get longer.

I suspect it is also now placing orders on Amazon without my authority.

My beard was doing that when I let it get too long. Lean over and let it touch the keyboard for even a second and a week later you have packages from Amazon coming in that you don't remember ordering!

I don't see any reason to not at least try Rogaine. It's pretty cheap now. I think when it first came on the market it cost like $100 a month; now it's a small fraction of that.

It doesn't regrow hair in a high percentage of people but it CAN stop hair loss to a certain degree (if not completely) in like 60-70% of users iirc.

I started thinning in my early 20's. I went out and bought a hair clipper kit for $25 and keep it 1/16" inch ~once a week. Jump in the shower to clean up and break out the razor for the neck area. I also stopped shaving my face and just do it 1/16" at the same time. Pre-COVID I would shave the bottom of my chin / upper neck area for that controlled beard look, now I don't bother.

Don't forget to apply sunscreen to your cue-ball head now! Also, hats are good. Skin cancer is no joke, and your scalp will quickly get burned.

Looking back, I started to lose hair in my early twenties (I was surprised by how much hair was left in the tub after a shower). I think by 27-30 I shaved it all off.

God made only so many perfect heads ... all the rest have hair! 😀

Good thing too ... my hair started thinning in my mid-20's as well and I've been shaving my head for over 20 years.

My two younger brothers started receding and thinning years ago but so far looking pretty safe for me at 31

I noticed a little recession going on early 30s and have been shaving my hair since. I think I use a 2 on the top and a 1 on the sides. I've also been going grey since early 20s, another reason to keep it short and tight.

Even with long hair I have to watch myself. The way it parts in the middle exposes the skin. 😱 When I go for walks I usually do a half up pony tail though so it kind of helps for that, and the back part stays down and covers my neck.

The amount of hair I lose in the shower is concerning sometimes, but supposedly it's normal, it just looks like a lot because it's long, but you can lose like 100 hairs in a day.
