I am thinking about doing a bet with one of my co-workers for $200. The bet is that I get down to 200lbs by June 1st. My current weight is 230~lbs.

My average weight was around 215 but then I started this job and started to do take-out for lunch and my job consists of sitting on my ass from 9-5. I am also 23 years old.

Do you think this is a possible goal to achieve, if I start eating more healthy and using the treadmill. Or is this bet too "out there"

you could do it. Im down almost 20 in 2 months. Im in the same weight range as you and I am almost 10 years older. Plus I still go out with my friends once a week and have some fattening drinks. Just eat better and exercise.

It's doable, but it'd take some discipline. You're looking at about two pounds per week or an average caloric deficit of 1,000 kcal per day.

I think I can definately lower my caloric intake, I eat alot of fatty foods during lunch like chinese, burgers, pizza. But if I start eating salad & grilled chicken then I think I can really do it.

Since its about a 90 day time frame that means I would have to lose 3lbs a week.

its defintely possible, if you work hard you could loose 4lbs a week. but working out reasonably and eating healthy you can get 2lb a week without too much effort.

if you said you averaged 215 before you started work. i doubt you will reach the 200 mark. it will require much more than just eating healthy. you will need to work out about 1-2 hours a day daily. 9-5 job, eating salads and grilled chicken, 1-2 hours worth of working out a day. i doubt you will stay motivated for more than 1 month.

Do South Beach (fat-conscious Atkins)

I lost 15 pounds in two weeks a year ago then 10 pounds in 2 weeks again about 2 months ago. You need a diet you can stick to.

If the sole goal is to meet the weight, he needs to do just cardio, and lots of it. That and a relatively calorie-restricted diet should do the trick.

Get a high colonic before you weigh in, shave all of your body hair, and fast for a couple days beforehand.

You can also starve for 2 months and get to 150 lb, but that's not gonna do you any good. There's different kinds of weight - muscle mass, fat, water, etc. A lot times when you start a diet, you lose mostly water, and so the weight loss is deceptive - you still have all the fat. So, you COULD lose 30 pounds in 3 months, but a lot of that weight will be lost as muscle and water, not just fat. And, in case nobody mentioned this before, you CANT lose fat and build muscle at the same time. The best you can hope for is keeping most of your muscle while you lose fat, and that only occurs at a slow rate, like losing 1 lb a week.

I suggest you do low impact, high intensity stuff. Biking, elliptical machines, swimming, ect. Running or using a treadmill is going to break you down fast if you aren't used to exercising.

Using the low impact equipment will let you work out longer, and harder without beating the hell out of your knees and feet.

Easily doable in three months, especially considering half of the weight is recent, "artificially high" weight.

1.) Whole grains.
2.) Water
3.) DARK GREEN vegetables (iceberg lettuce and celery are not "vegetables" in this sense)
4.) ...
5.) You win.

I don't doubt you can shed the weight in that time frame. I do agree about the water retention, but it does help inspire you to see you dropping pounds. Make sure to drink LOTS of water daily. The real problem you are going to have by what I have read about you is keeping the weight off. I lost 40 pounds a year and a half ago, have never felt better. I have put 8 back on, and am fighting pretty good to get rid of that and stay leaner. I need to actually lost about another 20 pounds and do some weight training to feel best about myself. Cut out all high calorie and high fat foods. A few tasty tricks I had were a can of cambells vegetable soup (76 calories, miniscule fat) in a can. One can, and if it was for a meal 7 crackers. You can eat as much salad as you can possiblt consume with the right dressing. I still to this day eat an entire romaine heart as a snack with catalina or sometimes no fat/low cal ceaser. No cheese, no bacon (simulated ok) no croutons. I enjoyed it and it required almost as much calories to consume as what it gave.

My biggest problem now is I am really enjoying the more fatty foods lately. I need to cut them out again. 1200 calorie a day diet shed the 40 in 5 months, so you can do it. Good luck.
