About 4 months ago I decided to drastically change my eating habits and see what overall effect it would have. Traditionally, I would eat one meal a day (dinner) and be satisified. With the changes I now eat a yogurt or fruit for breakfast, a small lunch, and dinner (portioned). Since the changes I have lost 25 pounds and have a lot more energy throughout the day. Now I just need to find the time to get my ass back to the gym (working 12-14 hours per day 6 days per week is killing me on that one).

eating more food in three different sittings yields a higher metabolism than eating slightly less food in one sitting.

You can do OK with eating only in the evening. The problem is if you have binge tendencies and don't have any structure to what you're doing. It can end up as a grazing-fest over a 2-3 hour period where you lose track of what's going in.

Size of meal had nothing to do it. It was the decreased metabolism that was killing me.

When you do not eat regularly, as others have mentioned, your body goes into a hibernation mode where it stores what you eat as fat for use later. So, not eating is actually worse that eating regularly and healthily.
