loses driver every time I reboot

I switched to xp pro and love it. have a umax firewire scanner. Found the driver that works with it but the scanner is not usable unless I uninstall it add driver and then it is fine, but as soon as you reboot , no scanner or yet there is the icon in the startup that says it is not available I addded the driver to c:\sytem folders drivers cause I thougt it could not find what do you think?
