My gf is away again and I want her to come home to a pleasant suprise.. Lost 6 pounds in 2.5 weeks on atkins so far and will like to add a pretty intense amount of exercise to the mix to speed things up - any suggestions?

I currently weight 241 and my goal to weigh 180 by my next birthday (2/04).. I have a treadmill and one of those total gym machines.. Any suggestions?

P.S. I just started doing 20 min on the treadmill x4 days a week and 15 min on the total gym x3 days a week.. I'm starting slowly and will hopefully build up my tolerance soon..

I've lost 16lbs in 3 weeks with diet and exercise...

Key is doing cardio stuff every day, and weightlifting every other day.

You can't drink pop, eat very many sweets, and have to cut back on your servings.

At least that's how i've been doing this.

Lay off the sweets, fast food, soda, and starchy foods. Most people can't cut down on those things immediately so gradually lessen your intake of those things. Maybe you have a good diet and just need to exercise ;) Good luck

plus what will help is if you do 200 situps a day (or as many as you can do per day) and 75 push ups per day... (or as many as you can do)

I currently do 200 situps a day... and I do 40 side crunchers per side...

I do 50 pushups a day too (usually do them seperate from my workout though) - they will help to gain pecs and create more upper strength

storm makes a good point too.. I haven't had fast food for 4 weeks... not at all... also be sure to eat plenty of fruits... will curve your appetite and help you lose weight.

Side-crunchers? A regular situp with your hands under your head and elbows sticking out. Then you do a regular situp except your left elbow touches your right knee?

Those situps...are they crunches, or full situps?

Some other notes:

If you're on Atkins, you're limiting your carb intake, which means that if you're not getting enough protein, your body will start breaking down muscle to feed itself. If you add a lot of exercise, you might want to up your carbs. You may not lose quite as much weight, but the weight you do have will convert into muscle and you'll lose body fat (more important than weight itself). Watch your overall calorie intake, and make sure that in addition to your cardio you exercise different muscle groups. For example, when doing pushups, do some at normal arm width, then do some with your arms close together (diamonds), then do some at a wide arm interval. For situps, also try doing 4-count (halfway up, stop, all the way up, halfway down, stop, all the way down) in addition to regular and side crunches.

In the past two months while I was at Ft. Benning, I lost 11lbs and, more significantly, went from 24% body fat (estimated by tape measure) to 21%.

And exactly how do you figure out how many calories you burn? That sounds like rocket science to me.

There are calculators on the net, google it. Something like 10x your weight for a ballpark.

I lost about 8 pounds in the past 2-ish months. How? By biking 2 miles to class and having my roommate eat most of the food

Sure it's possible with a good diet and exercise. I've lost 30 pounds in the last 1.5 months and 60lbs in the last 5 months.

I've only been exercising for the last 2-3 weeks and I've seen the greatest improvements in these last few weeks. Actually this week, I've lost around .75 lbs per day! It's all from the exercise as I haven't modified my diet at all. I eat 6 times a day with only 20carbs per day. Mostly protein and salad greens.

My exercise schedule at this point is 4 miles a night on the treadmill (1hour 40 minutes), 50 benchpresses with medium weights on my home gym, 15 reps on fly weights and I take a bike ride for a few miles 1 or 2 times a week.

Keep at it and you'll do it!

This is all just IMO, but I wouldn't eat most fruits if you want to lose weight. They are cramed full of sugar. Most berries are fine (raspberries, strawberries, blueberries), but banana, peaches, grapes, apples, etc. have somewhere around 40g of sugar in them. That is the same as a regular soda!

I'd recommend you snack on vegatables as they don't have nearly the amount of sugar in them. Though, I'd stay away from carrots, as they contain quite a few carbs.

Just IMO.

Pop has a lot of sugar... but apples don't have anywhere near as much as pop...

And you're supposed to have fruits and veggies every now and then...

And if you exercise daily, you shouldn't have to worry about eating an apple.. as you'd definitely work it off and a lot more with about an hour of cardio workout per day.
