People's irrational fear and delusions about tap water just make them tools for the bottled water companies.

You've been duped. Of the dozens of cities in the US that I've lived, only those places with high sulfur well water were bad... and only because of taste. The rest had tap water that was just fine to drink.

Not to mention tap water is safer than bottled water.

Finally, good drinking water does have a slight taste from the dissolved minerals within it. Compare drinking water with distilled water. You'll quickly realize water does have a taste.

Is there a list of the runner ups for Municipal Water? The water provided in Toledo, OH was supposedly ranked either 1st, 2nd or 3rd (cannot for the life of me remember the actual rank) in the country, of the municipalities that provided samples to the taste testing that I think took place in Chicago. I wonder how it stacks up to LA's water or the rest of the world for that matter.

Oh well. While the water here in Columbus isn't necessarily the tastiest on its own, after taking a tumble through my Brita water filter pitcher, it tastes awesome, because it doesn't really have a describable taste, although it definitely tastes awesome (it's not pure flavorless liquid). It's water as I imagined it.

Only big city I remember having tap water in was Houston. I stayed at the Hotel Derek on Westheimer and thought their tap water was not very good. It didn't smell bad, just didn't taste that good (it was drinkable at least).

I'll stick to our well water where I live now. Tastes awesome.
