Whenever I rent a car, the agents would use scare tactics to make me buy insurance even though my credit card provides it.

I did Fox something or other a few years ago, and the weekly rate was pretty cheap. Maybe $250 and I was under 25. I came in late at night though and it took forever for their shuttle to get around.

Last time I was @ LAX I used price line name your price- waaay lowballed it but it actually was accepted...can't remember what I paid but it was very significantly below all other deal sites (including priceline advertised price).

Cheapest I could find was $150 for the 3 days and then add another $50 for tax. So $200 for 3 days, this is renting at the LAX airport. If I rent at the city, I found cheaper by around $50.

This was the cheapest car.

I need the car at LAX for Aug-12 (morning) to Aug-15 (return later in the afternoon, early evening).

That's probably 4 days. The hourly rate is typically about 1/3 of a day. Double check your reservation times to make sure that it's right.

Probably not worth the bus/taxi fare and hassle to intentionally leave the airport and rent elsewhere for $50. But it's your time and money.
