A friend of mine plays this game and experiences random reboots. I built this machine almost exactly two years ago.

ASUS P5K Deluxe
E6850
4 GB Mushkin PC8500
HIS 1950
X-Fi Fatality PCI

It has done this with three sets of memory so I've pretty much ruled out memory as a problem. I swapped out his 1950 for an extra 4850 I had laying around and it still crashes.

I'm beginning to suspect something other than hardware but have no experience with this game.

Anyone else playing this game experiencing random reboots?

Does any other game reboot the system as well, or just LOTRO? Might check the fans and heatsinks, esp. on the northbridge, to make sure they are dust free and well seated.

Also, if he is overclocking, drop back to default clock speed and see if that resolves the problem.

LOTRO is the only game that causes him this problem.

No problems with WOW, AION beta, War Hammer Online etc.

Box isn't overclocked.

What OS is he using? Anything in the event logs?

I'd take a stab and say that he should update his Creative drivers and chipset drivers. I know that there used to be lots of issues with Creative cards and various chipsets though to be honest, I haven't kept up with their products recently so I could be way off in this case.

He is running XP Pro. I don't have the box in front of me to check the event log. I suspect the sound card driver too and have sent him a link to the driver at Creatives site. Didn't consider the chipset driver though, I'll send him that link too!
