I dowloaded the trial sat and played it this weekend. I have never played WoW before, but I played a few other MMOs such as it, and I came primarily from EVE. Of course LOTRO is nothing like Eve but it is like a few other MMOs i've tried, can't remember the names.

I enjoyed playing it, but I couldn't help but feel like I was wasting my day away. Most of the time I speant walking back and forth from town to town or area to area. Another thing that annoyed me was that when I went to a new place, I was overwhelmed with new quests. And if I didn't get every quest I was forced to walk back and forth more to get new ones. Half the time I would forget about many of the quests and walk right past the goal only to have to go back later when I figured out the directions it was talking about.

Something I did like was crafting. Especially when the weapons I created were actually usefull or worth a fair amount of money. The combat was done pretty well, and was challenging much of the time, not too easy lke many MMOs. Though the skills are a bit odd, having to use them so often kind of like attack combos.

Anyway it was alright. I might play some more this week but I probably wont pay to play it. How much is it to play anyway?

If a Founder refers you its $9.99 amonth or less if you sign up in larger than monthly incriments. If you just went out and bought the game I think its 14.99 a month again with it being less if you do larger than 1 month blocks.

I do agree at the beginning it is quite a bit of back and forth but its gets better as you get further as well as better forms of transportation than your legs. IE hunter ports, Captain summons, acorns, maps, Horses, and quick travel. All those things make that much less irritating. ive been playign since Beta, been a lvl 50 for awhile and am enjoying the end game areas quite a bit.

Bah, I'm still trying to kill that final boss in Fornost. I ended up just moving on to Angmar which has been a heck of a lot of fun and very easy to find groups when I needed them.

My only complaints are very minor, one of them being more bag space; particularly since adding the whole reputation structure I run out of bag space constantly.

I'm at level 43 (almost 44) and still having a lot of fun.

Well, on the first run we did get to the tower of the final boss but were kinda tired and a little low for a 5 man group. We wiped eventually on a 4 spirit pull and called it quits.

I did win the key and lighter rolls so the next day when 2 of the peeps from that group got a couple 50's from their guild to go with us, we cleared through via the shortcut to the final boss quite quick. I had just finished lighting the third brazier and turned around to see the boss die 🙂

One thing I do like about LOTRO is that boss encoutners have a trick to them, but it is easy to discover after one encounter if you are paying attention. None of the WoW crap of wiping several times the first time you see him to figure it out.

I do agree about bag space, saw that they added buyable vault expansions and happily spent 40s on the first one then gasped when I saw the next was 400s.

For the new rep stuff, where do you see your current level. I've done the initial find the rep guy quest for all but the angmar and dwarf faction and have gotten points from mob kills and turn-ins for several of the factions but don't know where to see my current rep point level.

Very much like WoW in that regard, in part its a way for you to explore the entire area via quest and to find out-of-the-way quest givers.

And there's a reason that Elwynn forest and Duskwood were called fedex levels 😉

I'd call it just about the best crafting system out there. Most of the items aren't too difficult to make as you level up at points where the items are still usefull for you.

If anybody has 2 Founder eligible referral keys, my friend and I are about to start playing. I've been playing the free trial for like 4 days and I'm really enjoying it. My friend watched me play for like 15 minutes and he wanted to play. Please PM me if you can hook me up. Thanks!

I still have some founders left, send me a message with the emails (no pm's here on the mobile during the day).

Did avert a war last night on an alt. Found out that they removed the elite mob from the first encampment. If you did not know about the encounter before running it, the little elf dude you would follow would often keep running when you engaged the non elites in that camp and would end up pulling the elite by himself resulting in a quick mission failure. Was nice to see that they are fixing some problema like that.

Haha, I remember that, though it has been a while since I have done that one. It is great to see they are fixing those little things.

I was running around like crazy yesterday trying to finish the expert Cook quest with my Burglar alt. Lots of fun, and I still enjoy the amazing graphics in this game, even though I have been playing it since December-ish.

Have any of you guys ever had the launcher give you "Error 105: Could not initialize Direct3D. Please ensure that DirectX 9.0c [Dec 2005] or higher is installed."? My friend installed lotro last night and it gives him this error every time he launches. He's reinstalled DirectX 9.0c a couple times, which is the only thing Turbine's KB tells him to do. He did a repair install of the game after reinstalling DX9c. We've searched everything we can think of and the only thing any websites say is "Make sure DX9c is installed." He contacted Turbine customer support, but while we're waiting to hear back, I figured I'd ask here just in case.

I think I ran into a problem like that before, for another game thought not LOTRO. I'd try reinstalling the video card driver and looking at the MS site for a related KB (as I recall its kinda obscure to find)

Now that I've thought about it, I believe it was the WIC demo that was having this problem on one of my computers. May also want to search the old WIC threads in this forum to see if I posted anything,

Which DX9.0c version does he have?..as he tried updating to Aug 07 version of DX9.0c?

Yeah, he downloaded the most recent DX9c from MS website. He ended up reinstalling XP for some reason and the problem is fixed now, so I guess we'll never know what the true cause was. I'm guessing it was a botched DX install that wasn't able to be repaired for some reason. Thanks.

It isn't related to which version: it was some type of very odd authentication/application access registry snafu as I recall from having a similar problem.

I was out for most of the weekend and played my guard when I got back. After getting a couple extra levels I decided to finally do the L15 quest. Much easier than the reports I had read about it as now you never face more than 1 opponent at a time.

Link to a thread about dev chat for next book and beyond. Next releaser will give another epic chapter, loremaster review (yippie), and player housing (better implementation than SWG from the sounds of it).

Couple other nuggets through it including epic questline grouping and crafting.

I sent you a pm lupi, but I'm guessing others already snapped up your founders keys. Any other founders have keys? My 7 day trial is about to expire and I'm looking to sign up for a subscription.
