Past Lifer 1957-2014 In Memoriam
The black squirrels were out en force today in Ottawa (I must have come across 20+ during my daily health walk) and I saw one eating what appeared to be a grasshopper. Not only that but another squirrel later was playing tag with a cat, each chasing the other in turn. Near the end of my walk, I saw another squirrel and a cat barely a foot apart on the grass, just lying there looking at each other, chilling.😎

So they've also aligned with the felines. WE'RE DOOMED!!🙁

That's Ornery's squirrel pic. I also have the animated .gif with its squirrelly jewels dangling from side to side.😀

squirrels are the most adorable rat-like creatures I've ever known.

Especially albino ones. See them on occasion here at OSU. Must be like an albino family considering people have been talking of albino squirrels for many years on this campus.
That, and many of us saw a hawk or eagle enjoying a nice albino squirrel meal. Everyone was like "omg the albino squirrel is dead!". Nope, just one of them. Ended up seeing another one a few days later.

They'd be such a damn cool pet if you could train them. Get them to just kind of chill on your shoulder, go outside and do their thing, scavenge for nuts (and burry them in other peoples yards!), and come back and chill. That'd be so damn awesome.

I know some people that have raised orphaned squirrels, they are all cute and fine until the grow up a bit... then they go fucking psycho on your ass.

squirrels are not vegetarians.

Unlike rabbits or deer, squirrels cannot digest cellulose and must rely on foods rich in protein, carbohydrates, and fat. In temperate regions early spring is the hardest time of year for squirrels, since buried nuts begin to sprout and are no longer available for the squirrel to eat, and new food sources have not become available yet. During these times squirrels rely heavily on the buds of trees. Squirrels' diet consists primarily of a wide variety of plant food, including nuts, seeds, conifer cones, fruits, fungi and green vegetation. However some squirrels also consume meat, especially when faced with hunger.[2] Squirrels have been known to eat insects, eggs, small birds, young snakes and smaller rodents.

Gee, I wish I'd see 20 squirrels on a walk through the woods. Yum yum yum! 6 shots, 6 squirrels. 3 dinners for me and the wife for about 20 cents total. Maybe $2 total if you include the rice & other stuff.

One thing I noticed when I went to see my parents is that country squirrels wouldn't approach me whereas Ottawa's squirrels aren't afraid and expect food from humans.
