Disaster in the making
This is a genuine threat to the health of the people in Iraq. More so than the alledged posibility of making a 'Nuke'.
No we don't know what used to be there, granted, but the U.N. Inspection teams had a good account of what was.
They grabbed and dumped anything that they saw, took some stuff home to use.
Mose appears to have been radioactive waste - which will be leading to many deaths to anyone exposed.

There were simular incidences in Mexico where people forund the 'Glow-Ball' from X-Ray machines and
Nucleard medicine treatment machines, usually Cesium, took it home to show the family and everyone died
from the exposure to the material (I'll try to find a link, there are many to that)
Another source of contamination is where the shielding for the medical equipment became mixed
with scrap steel and the subsequent re-melt and processing resulted in tone of batches of contaminated
steel which ended up in re-bar for home construction or in patio furniture.
The gift that keeps on giving.

Mexico incident
Another incident
Treatment for destroying pests
*Note: Some contamination may have been inadvertantly from the scraps left over after pest treatment
or poor disposal techniques of early designs of food treatment equipment.
more recently

First of all x-ray machines have no source material, if they did, it would not be as low of a dose as Cessium. X-ray machines produce x-rays from electricity. Medical fields use those type in the US, not source material for x-rays.
I would lvoe to know how they were using cessium in the medical field in mexico though...

Bio-Medical Center (Hoxsey Clinic) in Tijuana was ... one of the first alternative cancer

from just below their entry..

BioMedics Institute in Tijuana offers hyperthermia and focused low dose radiation with advanced therapies including brachytherapy, vaccine therapies, bio molecular therapies, Xenotransplantation (Cell Therapy), Apheresis, Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation, Cytokine Therapy, Electro-Magnetic Therapy, detoxification, Biological response modifiers, aloe vera, cesium, live cell therapy, and a nutritional program. They treat many disorders, including: cancer, immune disorders including lupus and MS, cardiovascular problems, gastro-intestinal disorders, chronic fatigue, and Fibromyalgia. They have purchased a linear accelerator to allow them to do lower dosed "pinpoint" radiation. Their website is http://www.biomedicsinstitute.com/ or call (888) 626-8067 for more info.

That is what is normally used in the medical and industrial field, linear accelerator. I have worked with a few different models of these, up to a 4mv (million-electrovolt), it will punch through over a foot of steel and put off enough readiation to kill in less than a minute all in a pinpoint smooth monochromatic beam.

You know for an administration and military that was really worried about terrorists getting thier hands on WMD, such as this Yellow Cake which would make a really nice dirty bomb they don't seem to be real concerned about securing it. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? I would think that would be on top of the priority list given the stated reasons for the war and the supposed threat.

Previous administration didn't do much in securing it themselves... oh wait, they never had this stuff. Nevermind, dummy me!

The ultimate irony, as the attack becomes more imminent, saddam hands over his WMD to terrorists so american forces will find nothing, headlines read "Bush forces Saddam to arm terrorists with WMD"..

What do you mean? We knew they had this stuff, this wasn't on any list of banned/unknown weapons or products. The UN and the International Atomic Energy Afency inspectors had cataloged, isolated, and sealed the stuff. WTH else were they supposed to do?

It was only after the invasion and the subsequent breakdown in security that it became fair game for anyone with a pair of bolt cutters. I am sure a lot of terrorists are working on getting some of that stuff right now.

he 100% right, they even warned us about their fears, Rumi said we had addressed it and were confident we had it under control, the next day it was looted and the UN was invited back.

I would have suggested the material would have made an excellent medium for any one of Saddam's waterbeds....

It boggles the mind how the Pentagon failed to make plans to immediately secure these sites. They were cataloged and sealed by the UN in the mid 90's for God's sake. Everyone knew where they were and that thier was radioactive materials that could be used by terrorists there even if it would not be usefull for making a bomb.

I guess we were too busy securing the oil ministry and ripping down statues.....

a convential nuke, no, a dirty bomb, yes. What is the option of a terrorist, I agree, they have dropped the ball big time here, unless they are trying to bait people into leading them to their cells, hopefuly they put some tracking bugs on those barrels first...;)

Rumsfeld and the Neo Conservatives running the Pentagon dropping the ball?? That's unpossible!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at how good a job Jay Garner is doing...oh wait he is out of there replaced by Powells man. Well the electricity and water are back in Baghdad...oh wait not that either...well we found all these other WMD...wait that didn't happen yet either. Well it is all part of the plan to smite the evil doers and will work out somehow..At least the whole world knows that we aren't pussies and that the French are weasels...

Obviously those oil fields and the oil ministry in Baghdad we secured ASAP were more of a threat than large quantities of unguarded Yellow Cake.

and as the days go on and I hear nothing about Iraqis dying from exposure I will wonder who has those barrels.

Remember the health ministry in Iraq was "looted", polio and other fun diseases were taken, along with other "unknown" substances, yet not one person in Iraq has contracted these diseases. Whoever took those knew what they were, knew how to handle, transport, and store them, reassuring thought.

just forget it ever happened, it was all a lie perpetrated by Bush anyway....
