I found one of those 2 lead, silver colored regulating crystals rattling around a system that was bequeathed to me about a month ago. Pentium 2 slot, asus mobo... it's current owner says that it's getting "hardware crashes"

my stress tests never revealed any stability issues without the component, but I just want to shut him up and replace the part that had the accident...

I seem to remember it being a small can, said mabye "14hz" with some specifications?

This is my first post in ATHT and I was hoping you guys would know which this most probably came from

Thanks for help....

They do make crystals in small can packages - maybe 3/16 inch dia and 3/8 inch long roughly. If it had a 14, it would be 14 MHz. Places like Mouser electronics sell crystals, but there are TONS of options. They are cheap, so buying a 14 MHz one that looks the right shape wouldn't set you back. If that's really the right frequency, there's a reasonable chance it will work. I've made lots of crystal oscillators, and most crystals seem to work in most circuits.

I don't even know where it came from... I was just wondering if it was more likley to have come from the PSU or the Mobo, never seen anything like that before on a mobo. It doesent matter anymore now... That box is fried now too... what a disaster... lol

thanks for the help anyway....
