Loose glasses

I've been wearing glasses for 3 or 4 months now. I hate having loose glasses, feeling like they'll be sliding off any second. Feel like I can't look down at all. Having to re-adjust them all the time. In summary: Boo loose glasses.

I've had them tightened up twice but there's only so much they can do. I think what I'm looking for it some sort of hybrid between goggles and glasses. Look like glasses, but wrap around my noggin somehow in a way I can tighten them to how I see fit. Need my glasses to grip my face. I'll feel a lot better even if they might look silly. I don't want to buy new glasses though, I spent a lot on my current set and they look real spiff. Sounds more like a DIY project since I don't know any place that can modify glasses like that, but I'm hoping there is some sort of product that does this.

Any ideas? Don't make me go to yahoo answers 🙁

Aren't they going to lose the "spiff" factor if you make them look silly? Just sayin'....

Have you tried swapping out the nose pads for some that might not slide?

Depends on the frame - I had that happen with particular frames, and I hated it. No amount of tightening would help. Eventually I accidentally stepped on them while backpacking, and that was end of story. Get a better pair if you can.

Buying glasses are a lot like buying shoes. If they don't fit perfectly, they'll bother the crap out of you. A good glasses store will help you find your perfect fit. Otherwise, you'll you'll end up looking like a dork.

If wearing glasses bothers you, why not try contacts instead.

Loose glasses don't bother me as much as dirty glasses. Since I only need them to read I lay them down all the time and they tend to get smudged.

Bring the nosepieces together and/or adjust the arms to hold onto your ears more securely. You may just need different frames.

Get the kind that have earpieces that wrap around your ears. They're springy metal, and you could hang upside down with them on. You see them on shooting glasses, and some aviators.

I'm going to bet the reason why they're loose is because the distance from the front to the bend in each arm where it hooks around your ears is too long. Go to an eyeglass shop and they can use a special heat machine to relocate the bend forward a little bit so it grips your head better and won't cause it to slide down.

Most people think the amount of grip from temple to temple is what causes glasses to stay on, but the distance from your ear to the bridge of your nose matters a LOT as well.

It would also help if, next time you buy glasses, you get the frames with the spring-loaded bows (the parts that go from the lens frame back to your ears, on either side of your head). I've had that style for years now, and have ZERO problem with sliding glasses.

Of course, for now, with your present frames, you could resort to this......but I wouldn't recommend it! :sneaky:

This and get them adjusted. Unless they're hard plastic, most farmes are adjustable. My POS $420 ($120 frames + $300 lenses) fit almost perfectly because I had them adjusted twice.

HOLY CRAP!!!

That's damn expensive for glasses. I pay ~$120 for everything at Costco.

I wish 1. Costco carried nice frames, and 2. My glasses were only $420...

Lets see...TAG ceramic/titanium frames, free-form Zeiss progressives = a fortune. But fuck they look and work well!

I WAS TRYING TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!!!

Seriously, I broke my plastic glasses 2 days earlier, and had to use my contacts 24/7. My house is very dry, so it just got so uncomfortable that I ran out to get some glasses down the street on a Sunday. There were two stores, but one was closed; the closed one had been open for 10+ years apparently. The open one was relatively new, died shortly after I bought my glasses. Wonder why...
