loose fan on video card. how to fix or replace?

so i have an Asus V9280VS Dual DVI video card as seen here. the fan is coming loose, not at the screws, but dead center where the fan is attached to the magnet. how do i fix this or get a replacement for it?

well here is a quick video of it. i just noticed it today because of the sound it started to make when it scrapes against the heatsink surrounding it.

That's definitely not good. I would go to newegg and look for a replacement. You probably wont find one that looks exactly like the manufacturer's, but many aftermarket coolers work even better than stock. The Arctic Silencers seem to be popular.

from this site, http://www.ocfaq.com/reviews/A...ling/VGASilencer_Rev3/, it says that Geforce 4 isn't compatible. my card is a Ti4200.

This worked for my Asus Geforce4 4200. It's the same chipset as yours. It's worked great for me, better than the stock cooler.

looks good. just two more quick questions. how do you provide power to this product? is it from the video card or can you use a connection from the power supply?

It will come with a molex connector, so you need to run it off a power line like a case fan.

i have the exact same video card which i bought one year ago. after a year ago it started making the exact same noise. there is seriously something wrong. thanks for the link to replace the fan!

first i removed the fan by taking out the 2 screws, then the power connector of the fan to the videocard.

to remove the heatsink, i got a pliers and squeezed the plastic connectors (the ones holding the heatsink to the graphics card) that go through the card's pcb. while squeezing it, i pushed through the hole to remove the heatsink.

For a few extra dollars, the VGA Silencer is totally worth it. Considering the $20 + shipping you're ready to pay for essentially the same garbage tiny HSF you had before, the VGA Silencer is severely underpriced. (It will cool better, more quietly, and help cool the case, too.)

according to the reviews, it does NOT work with ti4200 8x series. since dionx and i have the exact same thing, the silencer would not work.
