Snipes' prison sentence upheld

A federal appeals panel has upheld a three-year prison sentence on federal tax charges for film star Wesley Snipes.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta concluded Friday that the judge properly sentenced Snipes to three years in federal prison.

Attorneys for the action movie star argued that the sentence was "unreasonable" and that he should have been granted a hearing to decide whether his trial should have been held in New York instead of Florida.

A jury convicted Snipes in 2008 of three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file his income tax returns.

He was also here in South Africa on a fake passport or something a few years back... makes a badass Blade and other characters but her personal life is dodgy...

Maybe they could set it up so he and OJ are cell mates? He's the only cat with the skills to counter OJ's mad murderin' capabilities!! :hmm:

If anything he got off easy. If any of us did what he did we probbale get a lot more time and could not afford the lawyers that helped him a lot.

I don't understand how someone who makes that much money could not have another person hired for the sole purpose of making sure that shit got done.

I love how if you stiff anyone else, they're essentially powerless. They can wreck your credit, maybe garnish your wages, but outside of civil recourse, they're SOL. Still the Government? They throw you in fucking prison. 😀

More like wilfully ignoring the IRS's repeated request.

Snipe:" wtf, I ain't paying a cent of my money to those tax collector bastards. I dare them to come after me. I'll kill their ass."

This. I don't understand people like Snipes. He makes millions of dollars and doesn't want to pay any taxes at all? You got pay your fair share there, buddy. And after paying your taxes you'll still be making millions of dollars. What an idiot.

Wesley Snipes should not have to pay any taxes, he maintains his own army and the value of raising and maintaining said army costs much more than what his taxes would have been. Wesley Snipes keeps us safe at night and Wesley Snipes wants YOU!

It's not that he forgot to get it done, it's that he chose to stop paying taxes. He's what's known as a tax protestor or tax denyer, claiming that the US government cannot legally tax the domestic income of its citizens. The guy is an absolute nutjob.

Snipes will do just fine in Prison....

and how is he going to generate more tax money for our public consumption while in prison for three years? 😉

He can do his time, get out, still be filthy rich, and never work again just to spite the government. Costing the government millions in lost taxes due to the all the jobs he's NOT creating now. Plus you know he'll be living the good life in prison. No matter how you cut it, Snipes wins.

Wesley snipes a weird mofo. He's all into that 16th amendment never ratified right and Schiff tax avoidance stuff.

He got 3 years in prison for not paying taxes.
And the judge said he was making an example of him due to his fame.
Do you really think you would get more time in prison than Snipes, or are you trying to suggest 3 years in prison for not paying taxes is nothing, or other?

3 misdemeanor counts = 3 years in jail.

In the United States, the federal government generally considers a crime punishable with incarceration for one year or less to be a misdemeanor

He got the maximum time possible, and that's getting off easy? He also got a $5m fine.

I gotta tell ya if I were worth ~60 million I'd give it all not to do three years let alone half for taxes which was all that is required. Westley was a fool and I bet he feels like a fool too about now .
