Just recently I decided to start considering replacing my pickup with a newer one since I happened to see a pretty nice newer pickup for an ok price show up as I've been keeping an eye out for a new car for my Mom (I'd assumed they'd all be stupid expensive for anything decent since used car prices are kinda f'ed right now, they seem like 25-50% higher than they should be I think), so figured I'd see what other options there might be. I swear, every, single, fucking, truck has been modified either for stupid huge rims, or huge tires and lift kits (neither of which modification I want).

Saw that earlier and was like...well shit, glad I don't live down there.

When/where is the 2nd storm supposed to hit (there's 2 tropical storms or hurricanes right)?
 
I wish y'all the best and to be safe. Hopefully it will hit low population area and won't cause too much damage or injury/death.
 
Wherever this hits is basically going to be wiped off the map just like Mexico Beach. Closely neighbouring locations won't fare very well either. Storm shutters won't help much when the water level reaches the top of the first floor. I would shout in caps that you should absolutely get the fuck out of harm's way for what little good it would do. Hopefully relatives have samples of your DNA for body identification. I hate seeing and reading about all the Darwin award winners.

looks like it'll be going ashore almost bang on where rita did. that whole area is built to be rebuilt.

lol I had so many people in our neighborhood on Facebook asking all kinds of questions... apparently the builders were supplying homes with hurricane shutters or whatever, but many didn't I guess get the bolts installed that the shutters are screwed down to.

People scrambling to do things like buy huge bolts, install them properly into the home... yeaaaah... I guarantee they didn't get far.

The one thing I would change with this house if I could, would be to enlarge the garage, but it’s not possible. To close to the property lines.

Main place it is hitting is mostly a place for lots of oil/gas that supplies the rest of the US with energy 😛

Beaumont area of TX - will hit basically right inbetween TX and LA. Houston area with be spared - which is definitely the more populated area.

I can probably speak for majority of folks here in the Houston + surrounding area.... we all dodged a bullet.

But with how much fearmongering there was on this storm - we halfway expected to atleast get heavy rain and heavy-wind, expecting to knockout power etc....

Nope... a big ol' nothingburger, and 2 days of work-vacation spent putting up hurricane shutters. Fun stuff. Slept easy last night though, thats for sure.
 
Strongest storm to hit there since record keeping started, and second most powerful ever in the region. I suspect @conehead433 is not far off with the Mexico Beach comparison.

Yeaaah, you guys are misconstruing my post entirely - but I guess that isn't surprising from you two.

The question I was responding to was in relation to forum members. Not "how bad was the hurricane for where it hit". But you could tell that if you read the part where I stated "we all dodged a bullet"
 
Yeah - certainly glad it didn't touch us in Houston, but definitely feel bad for everyone in Louisiana who are going to take a walloping. I definitely expected to wake up in the middle of the night for at least some wind, but shit nothing was astray at all, no wind, no rain, and its bright and sunny this morning.
 
Very glad to see it missed Houston. Also, the storm surge seems to be significantly less than what was predicted, at least in some areas. Lake Charles and other nearby areas are a different story.

The local news shows a big tree fell and cut a house in half. A girl is dead in Louisiana and a chemical plant is on fire in Lake Charles because the Fire Department could not do anything about it yet.
