Marco has dissipated into nothing, so the probability of a double hit is effectively zero.

Laura, on the other hand, is tracking more southward of Cuba, giving it highly favorable conditions to intensify in the gulf, and now most models are predicting a major hurricane making landfall in eastern Texas near Galveston.

Nah, I think at this point you're a day or 2 behind. As models have continued to produce, it's looking more and more like Central Louisiana

Galveston is on the very edge (just outside of the cone of possibilities):

Most of the new stuff I'm seeing is TX/LA. It could easily go either way; this is still a ways off. But Texas is definitely not out of the woods.

Galveston now has a mandatory evacuation order. This is the last thing Houston needs, so hopefully Laura misses the mark and makes landfall somewhere less populated.

The gulf is absolute bathwater right now, so this thing is going to explode today.

EDIT: Laura is now a cat 1 hurricane.

Don’t know. I’m waiting on the 10:00AM model updates. I may stay put, board up and stay put, board up and leave.

I’m concerned it’s going to shift west a bit more, that leaves it over warmer water longer, leading to more intensification and higher winds in Houston.

Yeah I'm in the same boat.

I will likely board up and stay I'm thinking but I'll reserve ultimate judgement for now since we have ~48 hours still...

To be honest models have been shifting west then back east for the last 3-4 days. It's very sporadic and hasn't consistently been just moving west.
 
Waiting for the 10am model here. I'm up on the NW side of Houston just outside 8, so I'm hoping if it does tinge the edge of us, it stays mostly to the East side. We'll be staying put but will probably play it by ear on Wednesday night if we decide to shut down our gym for Thursday.

Can't say the 10am update gave me jack shit to change me from my undecided stance.

So far, I'm putting up hurricane shutters on at least my 1st story windows and plan to ride it out... as it currently stands.



You don't understand the value of having a large SUV vehicle until you need to evacuate quickly with 2 parents, 2 kids in car seats, 1 mother in law, and 2 dogs..... Aaaaaaaaaaand currently we don't have one, we pre-ordered an SUV to arrive at the end of the year.

There's no way you could've fit everyone in your RAV4. I have Land Cruiser and they couldn't all fit.

lol certainly better than what we currently have - which is just an Acura TSX sedan.

I mean, we would make it work if it was a CAT5 - one of the dogs would go on a lap, big dog would go on the floor under the kids feet heh.\


RAV4 would at least leave a full trunk to put the dogs and fit some suitcases.

We test drove the Hybrid and loved it. Definitely doesn't struggle getting to 60 in fast time.

We were planning to buy it then we heard about the RAV4 Prime (Plug in hybrid model) and decided to go with that. My wife could commute daily on the battery alone.

Yeah, both the 10am and 1pm models haven't changed anything. Wind appears up to 80MPH, not much rain.

We have storm windows on all our windows, and they appear to have made it through numerous hurricanes before we bought the house, so I'm not super concerned. I'll probably pull some of the lighter things into the garage and try to make space to put one of the cars in, or leave it at our gym. Roof is brand new, so I'm assuming we won't lose any shingles if they did a good job.

We've got enough water and freeze dried food to make it through a week at least if it came to that. Might go pick up a power inverter for the car just in case for phone, and charging stuff.

rav4 isn't a large SUV. it's a mid size minivan.

Ah, so your vehicle...


I'm 6'1" and my son is 6"3". He can ride behind me and we both have leg room. Not so much in the 2010 though.
