I guess 220 million transistors and a new architecture complicates manufacturing? :) That date is just what I saw online retailers pre-selling the card (starting in the 550$ range). Paper-releasing a card 6 weeks early is kinda sketchy imo.

Flame away :).

that sucks.

i find it annoying when a company unvails a new product and then you have to wait 2 months before it shows up in retail.

I don't mind paper launches so much for Video cards as we get to see how they perform months in advance.

CPU's on the other hand are quite annoying because it ussually pretty obvious how much faster they will be unless its a brand new core or something. I.E. AXP to A64 or PIII to PIV. Both other wise steps along the way are pointless IMO. IE 3000XP to 3200XP the performance in negligable and really the companies should just launch it when they are ready to.

LOL, I think its safe to say that he is lucky regardless of when he gets it. Nice to be able to afford a card like that. ;)

To the OP: Good 'ol IBM with their craptastic production rates and incredicrap yields is most likely the culprit here. I wish that nvidia just went with TSMC for the NV40 production.

Was the 17th ever an official date directly from nVidia? Or was it just another one of those speculations?

Agree on the waiting frustration with vapor ware.
Review sites get stuff 2-3 months before it even shows up on the street. And the hype machines keeps saying to wait. I'm glad I didn't. Picked up the budget 5900XT and it plays UT2K4 great.

Except the X800Pro shipped to consumers like 2 days after review sites posted their reviews... I remember buying a GF3 like 2 weeks after they were released too... can't remember my other purchases, don't think I've ever bought other cards so shortly after release. Anyway, I wanna see some benches on final boards from both companies built by third parties. I certainly don't want a gimp 12 pipe card either :).

I've just been checking online retailers the past few weeks for their ship dates on pre-sales of the 6800 Ultra, the date has just been steadily moving backwards :(.
