Looks like Paramount (Skydance) is likely to buy out Warner Brothers

Just saw in the news that Paramount is putting up cash to buy out Warner Brothers. If this goes through, we can look forward to the inevitable crossovers:

Star Trek & Green Lantern

Sonic the Hedgehog & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Police Academy & Beverly Hills Cop

Blues Clues vs Evil Dead

?? any others you can think of that I've missed?

We joke about these ridiculous cross overs but if they actually did these I bet it would actually do well, people would be all over it just due to how silly it is.

NGL Transformers vs Godzilla would actually be pretty epic.

A few weeks ago I watched Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and principal Snyder was played by Armin Shimmerman. I was thinking it would be fun to mix tv series, and have someone like Quark running a somewhat normal American highschool. Nobody comments on why that is. I guess that would only work well in the scifi genre.

Watching Giles as the organ repossessor in Repo: the Genetic Opera was fun. He uses someone's innards as a singing puppet at one point. The movie (musical) isn't for everyone but I love it.

No update in a while here—but we all know Netflix backed out after Paramount offered an insane deal to sweeten the pot for shareholders.

Saw some interesting speculation from MG Siegler: https://spyglass.org/netflix-warner-bros-paramount-deal/

“Of course, Netflix could have absorbed such a cost. It's a $400B company (well, before this deal, anyway) – double Disney! Paramount Skydance? They're worth $11B. Yes, they're paying almost exactly $100B more than they're worth for WBD.Yes, it's looney. But really, it's leverage.

To be clear, Netflix was going to pay for the deal with debt too, but they have a clear path to repay such debts. They have a great, growing business. They don't require the backstop of one of the world's richest men, who just so happens to be the father of the CEO. How on Earth is Paramount going to pay down this debt?”

I don’t think Daddy Ellison would’ve backstopped this deal if he didn’t have some sort of guarantee from Daddy Trump that John Q. Taxpayer would be paying down the debt—some way, some how…

It's just the fact that they can pay a certain amount up front, then mine the properties for continual profits for the next 50 or 100 years, for TV shows, movies, merchandise, shirts, games, etc.

It will be interesting to see whether Paramount stuff shows up on HBO, or vice versa. And I guess we'll also have shows like Gold Rush and Homestead Rescue from Discover.
