Looks like Newegg is using DHL now.

I selected the egg saver for a memory card I bought. Shipping came out to $1.90. Tracking shows it as DHL.

I don't see anything like that... only FedEx and UPS.

Probably on smaller items and it might be a combination between DHL and the postal service (which I've seen several times from other companies).

I think it is an option that shows up for very light items.

If you select say an SD card and a flash drive and put them in your cart, a very cheap shipping option will show up (much less than $6.99 per item often see with these items).

I've seen Buy.com use it also. I think DHL initially picks up, then drops off at strategic USPS location for final delivery. Takes longer to get to you, but low price is nice. :)

I'm baffled why they don't use USPS First Class for low-weight items like memory cards. A memory card in a padded envelope shouldn't be more than $1 in raw postage, coast-to-coast in 3 days instead of slow-ass UPS Ground.

Not good for me. After DHL ran over a coworker's bike, they closed up shop and no longer deliver in my town.

makes tracking a pain. dhl->usps. you lose tracking for a bit during transfer.

DHL = Airborne = worst delivery service in existance.

(based on 100's of screw-ups over several years)

How did DHL pull the running over a bike thing? Did they just decide to drive over a bike rack or did your coworker get run off the road? And wouldn't they just have something shipped to a local delivery center (not necessarily in your town) and then drive a van/truck to deliver it where you live?

I never understood this either, why don't they just use padded envelopes to ship small little things like memory cards. The only reason I can think of is insurance - usually with a shipper besides USPS, they have a default amount of insurance ($50-$100), so that might be why they stick with UPS/FedEx/DHL...

They are calling it EggSaver... and you dont know it's DHL till way after your order is shipped.

If I would have known i would've selected otherwise. The tracking number they supply you with doesnt work ..and good luck getting someone on the phone. Idiots.. Newegg sux

Ever since DHL delivered my Dell 24" monitor to a house three streets away from mine (and none of the houses have the same numbers) I won't buy anything if I know DHL will be delivering it.

QFT. I just bought 2 gigs of RAM for an old laptop and rather than spending the $6 per stick (which is rediculous) I could get both shipped for $3.99. I thought, "Great!"

But DHL's tracking # basically is in sub-space somewhere.

I sure hope I get my RAM. :frown:

Full tracking & insurance, plus I'm sure any claims are handled much more efficiently than dealing with the post office.

As for my DHL @ Home rant - a package from a Chicago suburb *to* a Chicago suburb is minimum 4 days delivery to transfer between the various DHL warehouses in the region. That pissed me off when I went with a local etailer once because I needed a part quickly. :|

Heh, hopefully it is just an option and not default. Our operations manager was dealing with a company and they shipped a sample product overnight via DHL. We don't have DHL in our area (they packed up and left town after running over one of our employee's motorcycle). So she checked the tracking. Estimated delivery 16 days later. Awesome! Overnight delivery FTL.

I don't stop at Frys any more because they use DHL and I always get crappy service. Guess I'll have to reconsider buying from Newegg as well. Such a shame they just take the lower price even though it's also far slower service.
