Looks like need-based healthcare, not greed-based healthcare, is the Christian way.

Okay...

The catholics are still the largest denomination. Most other sects use their bible, do you have any real arguments, or just blah-blah?
Protestants make up a huge portion and are splintered because of their many sects or divisions. Byzantine, Coptic and Orthodox churches hold traditions that were adopted before The Holy Roman Empire.

What Bible can I read to get a better understanding of their beliefs?

OMG! Communism! D:

The Fellowship of the Believers

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Acts 2:42-47

Edit: Darn! This was meant for P&N. :(

So I guess when we use the Biblical example, with government-run healthcare they nail your ass to a cross and then you die. That's a real death panel for you.

And Jesus was hardly a touchy-feely liberal. He never, ever called for the government to fix a problem and if you read the parable of the talents you can see that he wouldn't have much cared for welfare of the entitlements system either:

I agree. I don't think he'd support agents of the state putting a gun to someone's head. OTOH, didn't he tell people that if they didn't worship him, then they'd go to Hell, or was that really added by the evangelicals?

Universal health care requires violence and force.

Romans didn't pass on the tradition that most follow today. Read slower.

I think that you need to read up on some things before making statements like this.

Christianity may not have even survived the Middle Ages had it not been for the Roman emperor Constantine declaring it the state religion of the Roman Empire and directing the primitive religion's leaders to meet at the Council of Nicea to "iron out" the details of how the religion would be run so that it appeased enough of the different factions' desires until they all played relatively nice with each other.

One of the primary purposes of the Council was to decide on the date of Easter. This was done via a vote amongst the holy men in attendance. To a lessor degree, the books of the Bible and the disputes related to the addition of some other writings was settled (this isn't a statement saying that they chose the entirety of the Bible, but a confirmation of what was considered to already be canon).

I think you missed the point of what I said.

It is one thing to give of your own free will... it is another for the government to make you.

Who cares what desert mystics probably hallucinating from dehydration not to mention inferior intellect had to say? I prefer we adopt what works and that seems to be paying half as much for twice as good like EU/Asia countries do.

QFT. Jesus wanted people to want to help their neighbors - not to be compelled to help their neighbors.

*sigh*

The true teachings of Jesus is to build and strengthen the individual, generosity needs to come from within.

The "progressives" teach that the individual cannot be trusted to do the right thing, the path of generosity is through force of law.
