Looks like Mandrake 9.1 is out

Contrary to what you see on the FTP sites, mandrake 9.1 looks to be final. It reads RC3 in the filename, but various websites state this
is the final release!!! they will change the filename once the FTP sites sync
 
Two of the RC3 ISOs I've downloaded have the identical MD5SUM as the Final ISOs listed on Mandrake's site. Could this be their last release ever? 🙁

yes it is ... i burned the first CD and booted it to see if it was legit, but ran into problems. stated it coulnd't initialize RAMDISK or
something. I may redownload later.
 
Mandrake 9.1 offers one of the best print rendering solutions currently available under Linux.
TCP/Socket (ethernet-connected and HP JetDirect) printers are also detected, as well as printers available through SMB (Windows-servers).

I highly doubt this will be the last release of Mandrake. Looks like they are pulling through this financial issue they are having and are getting the protection that they needed from the French courts. This is all my uninitiated opinion of course.

BTW, if you use any of the codeweavers products, this includes any version of wine NOT included with the OS, wait for a month or 2 to use this or RH 9 as the updated GLIBC (basically anything over 2.3 is broken and definately 2.3.2 which is what is included in MDK9.1 and RH9).
 
Nice release name for Mandrake 9.1 : bamboo.

Now I can say I upgraded my dolphin system to a bamboo 🙂

Well.....sucks for me then. Mandrake is my fave linux distro.

And I'm not boycotting German Goods. Just the French.

Damnit. Maybe I can still use Mandrake b/c they have an american subsidieary.......have to look into it.

Now is a better time than evar 2 support Debian, the American distro 😉. Ahem..... errrrr....... uhhhh......

I've gotten slack installed and ssetup on one machine.....and it was hard as nuts. Took me forever to get the XFree86 Configed right....

and then I had the crazy mouse problem too........

But.....aside from the bloat of redhat, I guess I shall look into debian again........but I'm scared. I want linux to be EASY 😉 j/k...i've tried debina before....but preferred the ease of use of Mandrake. Plus, Redhat was my "first" ....and mandrake was a LOT like Redhat.

 
I don't get it: ppl are talking about just the distro's from a specific country of origin. This is ridiculous, because distros are nothing but an accumulation of packages. What about individual packages? What about the libraries that are required to run the packages? What if they originate from country A or country B? Are you NOT going to install the packages then?

Some of the lead developers of ReiserFS are from Russia. A bunch of developers for KDE, Gimp, etc. are from France/Germany. Xine, a VCD, etc. player has some of its lead developers from some of the Western European countries mentioned earlier in this thread.

So, you wont use these apps/utilities?

How silly can people get?

Mods, isnt it time this thread was locked for its foolishness and simply because its going way too OT? Is this the OS forum or the OS vis-a-vis political idealogy forum?

And btw: Debian is IN NO WAY a US-Based distro.

Wow, civad, impressively reactionary for you. If you must know I was only kidding around. That was my point. I would like for you to quote the part in this forum where I specifically said anything about boycotting mandrake. Much less any of the other things that you mentioned. Personally I found calpha's post kinda funny in the first place. Why would anyone ask wether or not mandrake was french unless he/she/it had recently dined on freedom fries. I already know that which you just ranted on.

And yeah, all linux's and bsd's are probably more heavily european than anything, regardless of where the money goes.

I dont know if my outburst can be called reactionary or not, but to me it seemed like somewhere this along thread the thin line separating sarcasm from other things was crossed. And I did not target anyone in particular, nor did I mention any names.

Name any names ehhh??? There wasn't really too many on the list in the first place: calpha, flatline, and myself. Flatline only posted once so I don't think that counts for much. Leaving two, the number that it takes to make a crowd. Hmmmm..... Oh yeah and about that thin line, I think that it should be widened just a itty bitty bit 😉.
