After Cleveland watched two longstanding trade targets land elsewhere -- Mike Bibby in Atlanta and Jason Kidd in Dallas -- sources say that the deal calls for the Cavaliers to receive Wallace, Szczerbiak, Seattle point guard Delonte West, Chicago's Joe Smith and a future second-round pick from the Bulls.

The Bulls, apparently abandoning their gamble on Wallace less than two seasons into the lucrative four-year deal they used to sign him away from Detroit, would get Cavaliers forward Drew Gooden and swingman Larry Hughes along with Cavs reserves Cedric Simmons and Shannon Brown.

The Sonics, shedding Szczerbiak in the name of additional payroll flexibility, come away with the expiring contracts of Cleveland's Ira Newble and Chicago's Adrian Griffin as well as Cavs veteran Donyell Marshall.

Is this some sort of coded message flailing against Lifers?

That's a whole pile of has beens and never will be's that got moved around for really no gain.

Chicago dumped a pricey old vet who is an offensive liability and picked up pretty much the same player (Gooden) in return. At least Gooden is a bit more active on the offensive end. Hard to tell how much value he has without Lebron pulling a double team or setting up plays.

Hughes is a walking injury list who has never repeated the season he had at Washington before being traded to Cleveland.

Cleveland picked up a shooter in Wally and an active PG in West, but neither of them will help out much in long term.

Seems like a lot of work for nothing.

Nice. I have a luxury suite the night they are coming to NJ. I think March 12th.
I'm not a big basketball fan, but I'll see the new look Nets against the new look Cavs.

LOL ... he's probably the last player a team would trade. If a GM traded Lebron, he should be fired the very next minute.

Dwight could be one of the best big men every but Lebron could be one of the best players ever, period

I thought the same thing

Well see the thing is gentlemen, ummm, *reaching for an answer*, uhhh....

The Cavs sent off 6 players, and got 4 in return. Losing 6 players/gaining 4 is kinda like a change of scenery, since it's not 1 or 2 guys that are getting sent off/coming in.

/fail?

Better interior defense (a weakness) and better outside shooting (another weakness). Wallace can play PF instead of center, and will only help the 3rd best rebounding team in the league. Team reminds me of the Bulls dynasty in components and player ability/roles, just missing a Pippen.

This deal also gives them contracts that expire 2008-09, and an extra draft pick. Another great part of this deal for the Cavs was they kept the young players they wanted. They also gained the chance to remake the team one more time before LeBron's contract comes up again in 2010. Make no mistake this deal was done to win a title within the next 2 seasons. Hopefully over that period they will combine some picks and trade up in the draft for an elite point guard. At 2009 end they can rebuild around James/PG and a few others.
