I don't recall even hearing about that; if I did, I certainly didn't commit it to memory. (But props for referring to inconvenient reality as a "talking point". Mmm, tasty tasty Kool-Aid.) I wouldn't be surprised if the Pubbies were violently opposed to it at the time; that's how DC works. (Or if you will, how D.C. doesn't work.) I haven't any strong feelings either way about either proposal, I'm just laughing at the hysterical hypocrisy here. For myself, I tend to dislike parades, but I do know patriotic people who would love it. Personally I'd leave it up to the military leaders if, when and what form such a parade would take. I would suggest that such a parade coincide with the last forces pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan so that such preparations don't compete with training and deployment; other than that, I shan't care.
And double props for suggesting that such a parade would be to humble the People [sic] into submission. That's not only amusing, it's completely in line with your side's desire to grant government a monopoly on deadly force.
You're just trying to muddy the water as usual. Shumer proposed a ticker tape parade for returning troops, a celebration of their service & of a return to peace. It's a whole different deal than a parade as a show of military strength & we both know it.
