Not quite. This will take a lot of work to get off the ground. It may not work out at all. There is risk involved.

Congrats, sounds like your freelance work paid off.

Not really, this is not a graphics related position at all.

Oh. well uh. looks like having an uncle paid off.

I haven't committed yet.

Good luck in the new job, hope it works out for you. Save your money; it can take a while for a new business to turn a profit. It would suck to blow all your money in the first year and have nothing when the salary disappears.

Very true. But I think I will know before the year is up if this is going to work or not.

I was doing freelance graphic design and Flash work for the last few years, built up a client base and was making a decent living. I got an job offer last week. My uncle is a very successful businessman who had an idea for a new company. He offered me a 20% partnership to run the web dept. of this company, plus he offered to double what I made this past year as a salary for the first year. After the first year there will be no salary, just the partnership. He figured that we will give the company a year to see if it will work. There is tremendous upside in this company, it's a great business model. I'm not going to be specific about the company or actual numbers, but I think I'm taking it.

Good advice on the saving, I know my Uncle and his 2 partners didn't pay themselves for 9 months while getting their business started. Not that it was a bad idea or not successful (3+ million dollar business now) it's just that a lot of times it's rough taking off.

Since you will be making twice what you do now save the extra for if things go sour year 2, that way you have at least a year of living expenses just in case.
