I was doing freelance graphic design and Flash work for the last few years, built up a client base and was making a decent living. I got an job offer last week. My uncle is a very successful businessman who had an idea for a new company. He offered me a 20% partnership to run the web dept. of this company, plus he offered to double what I made this past year as a salary for the first year. After the first year there will be no salary, just the partnership. He figured that we will give the company a year to see if it will work. There is tremendous upside in this company, it's a great business model. I'm not going to be specific about the company or actual numbers, but I think I'm taking it.

You seem to go through a mid-career crisis every year or two.

Does he have the cash to pony up the salary the first year? If not be wary. If so have a blast.

Everyone *needs* a good kitchen and brewery! Alas, we don't fit the cubicle life style.

I need a good chef and brewmaster. Want to move to Oakland? Are your guns in clean and loaded? Ok sleeping in a tent in my back yard? Good. PM me for details of this fabulous opportunity.

Edit: Oh, and congrats to OP! Sounds like a fun opportunity.

That is a good question. I told a few of them of my plans and recommended other people I know in the business. Two of them asked me if I could do work for them in the evenings. I don't know yet what my schedule will be like.

Thats the exact type of thing I have been waiting for. Unfortunately I don't know any successful businessmen. Prepare to swim in money!

Why wouldn't you be specific about the company? Doesn't increased web traffic lead to a greater interest in the product/service said company provides? That's simple marketing right there...

Good luck in the new job, hope it works out for you. Save your money; it can take a while for a new business to turn a profit. It would suck to blow all your money in the first year and have nothing when the salary disappears.
