Looks like Amazon is doing away with The Expanse

That's a bummer. And 2/1 is right around the corner. I've seen the series a few times, not sure I'll have time to squeeze it in before it goes offline, but might try and make an effort. Was such a good show.

Never trust streaming to be there when you want it.

I liked The Expanse; mostly... SYFY has a knack for having unlikable characters. They were mostly a bunch of dicks. Same with The Magicians, same with 12 Monkeys. I thought it was a more realistic view of the future than Trek(unfortunately). I'll watch it again at some point, but it won't be a regular viewing event the way Trek is. Bobby rocked. She was my favorite character.

She was indeed...My Favorite Martian.

My main complaint is that early in the series, they just sorta plopped a big old steaming wad of protomolecule on Venus and I kept waiting, season after season for them to get back to that. Nada. That story had legs just as smooth and silky as portal portal.

Its been awhile, but isnt that covered as the protomolecule was making the jump portal on venus. That was one of its main purpose. Once the jump portal is up, no real reason to go back to venus.

I've started buying physical media again instead of chasing stuff across streaming platforms.
Better buy a couple of backup bluray players, they are going the way of the dodo.

I was anti piracy but between Louis Rossman and all of the shenanigans with games and movies, I am coming around. It is going to be the only way to preserve games and movies.

EDIT: The Expanse is one of the best sci-fi series made this century.

Think I already have a total of 4 including the PS5 and drive for my computer.

They'll have to pry them out of my cold dead hands.

Weird, doesn't Amazon have the publishing rights to The Expanse?

Seasons 1-3 of the expanse were peak sci-fi. Just a ton of fun, and the pacing and mystery was just about perfect.

I feel like Amazon's S4-6 suffered the streaming format pacing disease where there were a whole lot of "character building" episodes where a whole lot of nothing happened. I was invested so I stuck it out, but I can see someone trying to get engaged with the series just falling asleep during some of those.

Shame good sci-fi is so hard to comeby nowadays, especially when it feels like so much sci-fi is becoming reality.

Seasons 1-3 were made by SyFy…so Amazon might have only had license for a few seasons. IIRC, Amazon made Seasons 4-6…so no licensing issues.

So can anyone confirm if the show is leaving prime video in the US? I don't want to binge 62 episodes before the end of the month if I don't need to.

So far, I haven’t seen the warning on Prime.

Can’t tell if this is actually happening…where it MIGHT be happening, of it the rumor is just bullshit.

Physical media can include extras you don't get streaming. I check out from my local library. Or buy.
We used to spend a lot of time at the public library when my boy was growing up. Have not been there in years. Really should get down there and see what they have for bluray. We all need to do our part for film and game preservation.

On a completely different tangent: Northern Exposure is on Prime now. I have the box set I got off of Ebay years ago. One of my favorite TV shows. You can see where the writing starts to go down, but before that? Goddamned magic.

I hated Northern Exposure all those decades ago. I recently started watching it on Prime…so far, I was right in my early assessment.

Thanks. My searches are only coming up with sites I've never heard of before and other irrelevant info. Copilot said it was but when I asked for the link to "leaving soon" titles it said no link existed and that I had to look myself (lol). I didn't find a "leaving soon" section. Clicking on the Expanse also didn't show anything like you said.

This link says it is expiring but they aren't sure. https://www.whattowatch.com/news/hu...t-to-leave-the-streaming-service-that-made-it

This is true in the US and UK, and presumably other regions too. We're not sure whether Amazon is removing all six seasons, or just the ones it didn't create, but the streaming service would presumably make some reference if the latter was true.

Northern Exposure's great. I haven't seen it since the 90s, and have been meaning to rewatch, but I have a bunch of stuff I want to get to first, and I've been having a hard time watching video. I quit for a couple months, and I need to finish watching Voyager, but all I want to do is listen to music and mindlessly scroll the web. I'll get to it some day.

A branch of my local library is 3 city blocks from me. I hit it on bicycle or walk. But they have a website where I sign in and can search their catalogue and put a hold on items of all kinds. I get an email when it's ready for pickup. Some items aren't physical, they have more and more evideos I can check out for a week, but for physical items it's 3 weeks and if nobody puts a hold on it in the meantime it automatically renews for another 3 weeks. After 2 renewals you only get one final 3 week. So, lots of times I can keep the item for 9 continuous weeks. They used to fine you for overdue items but since the pandemic they don't. I assume they get after you if you keep an item for long enough overdue but I've never gone there! They used to do video cassettes, then got into DVDs, and nowadays have DVDs & Blu-rays, but so far AFAIK haven't acquired 4K Blu-rays. I've bought several of those. Of course, they have music CDs (LPs too). Yay!

If you mean Star Trek Voyager, that is next up on my list. I rewatched DS9, and am finishing up next generation. I am in season 7.
