Looking to upgrade my CPU

Thinking about jumping up to an E8400-8500-Q9550 or possibly a Phenom 9950 since the prices have dropped.. Would I really even see any kind of a performance jump from my x2 6400? Also thinking about popping in a 4870 or 260/280.. Just having a hard time justifying dropping a lot of money into it other than just having an upgrade itch.. I do enjoy playing new games coming out all the time because I work hard, and study hard.. Like to play games, plus love new technology.. Really excited about I7, and Deneb coming out around the corner..

I'd wait for the i7, or grab the q6600 before they're all gone; Fry's had them with free board for $150 on labor day.

I'd wait, too. If your mobo supported a higher-end Phenom, I'd consider just dropping one in for a quick-n-dirty upgrade, but I don't think it does.

Of course, then you also come down to the whole dual-core v quad-core debate... ;)

If your computer isn't having trouble running the programs you use then there's no sense upgrading.
