Looking to spend $700 or less on scooter/moped, what should I be looking at?

Now that it's summer, I'd like to get a scooter or moped to get around. However, I know almost nothing about this sort of thing so I'd like some recommendations from you guys. Here are the stipulations:

1) Must be less than 50cc (otherwise I need a motorcycle license from the state)
2) Should be able to do at least 30mph
3) Range of at least 60 miles (so probably about a gallon size gas tank)
4) $700 or less, though I'm willing to spend a bit more if it's really worthwhile

Please let me know what you think.

Let's see. Under $700. Your choices are China, China, and China.

If you want some actual choice as far as name brands and quality goes, you will need to bump that number up a LOT. As it is, $700 does not even include taxes or shipping. On the web sites that I have seen, they do not even advertise the name brand. Heck, I doubt that I could even pronounce the name brand even if they did tell me.

Check e-bay motors.

The only other choice is to get something that is WELL used (and probably does not even run).

I really don't have a problem with buying an off-brand since I am a poor college student. I recognize that most of these will suck, but do any off-brands suck less than some of the others?

Also, is it worth considering the thin scooters like this one:

Don't know if you will find any under 50cc's. 50cc's is pretty much the minimum

Yeah, I know. Most of the stuff I'm thinking of is 49cc's

You can get a scooter from pep boys for around $700 though I recommend you don't give it a second thought. No one will work on them if something goes wrong, which it will, and the company that makes them is almost non-existent. If you want a good one you are looking at $2K+

I've also looked into getting a scooter...good luck finding a reliable one < $700. My budget was $2,000 and keeps going up.

Scooters are so nerdy . Look into a street legal dirtbike or something. You could pick up a nice used name brand 250 for a decent price.
