looking to set up basic studio type environment

i have nice space with white walls and floors, i've seen some very simple 2 light studios before so how can i do this on the budget for now?

also is dslr really better choice than good point and shoot?

i have canon 6.3 dslr, it should be good for starters?
 
i'd set up a frame made out of pvc pipe for a backdrop. you can also use pvc pipe for light stands. you'll want a good tripod and head if you don't already have one.

digital rebel is fine.
