Looking to replace 2002 Nissan Maxima....

So fiance wants to replace her Maxima with something that gives her better mileage. Although she wants better mileage she is not willing to give up the extra horses that come with v6. So is there such a thing as economical v6 car that is not made in US ?

We will start test driving next month.

getting rid of a 2 year old car to get better mileage will not make any financial sense unless she gets something like a diesel jetta with a completely stripped interior. even then, she'll likely only break even, and she'll lose all the performance. anything made in the US is going to be better quality than the hecho en mexico jetta.

This is just not a good idea, fiscally or otherwise. I can't think of too many V-6-powered sedans that will offer markedly better mileage than her Maxima anyway. I suppose she could sell it and buy a 2001 Max, which has the 3.0L engine, but I don't think she will see a dramatic improvement in mileage (I average around 23 MPG on my 2001 Max SE w/ 5-spd).

Let's put it this way: if you want a vehicle as fast as a maxima, and also similar in size, you will NOT be getting any significant increase in mileage. I'd be surprised if you could find a car of the same size and performance that offers even 2 mpg more.

This is a pathetic attempt by your monetarily incompetent fiancee to rationalize a new car purchase. At least be honest with herself. Selling a car and spending a ton more on another one to "save gas money" is frankly retarded.

no. there isn't. just about all v6 sedans get the same mileage. best you might do is get one that runs on regular instead of premium. but, factoring depreciation and how dealers have a tendancy to make money, you would be losing money.
