Looking to purchase my 1st gaming PC...

So I'm sure this question has been asked a million times on this forum but I'm new here and new to PC gaming... I'm looking to buy my 1st rig and I have no idea what I should be looking for. I would like to spend around $1000 or less. I'm not sure i can get a decent one for that price or where to even look. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Does that price need to include a monitor, or do you already have one?

The best prices I've seen on customizable prebuilts are at
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

... though you might do better with something like taking a refurb Dell XPS then adding a better graphics card yourself.

$1000 today is near top of the line that'd rape bleeding edge graphics for the next 12 months.

Enjoy your budget!

Thanks for all the help guys. I would also need to purchase a monitor... I need to buy everything that is necessary for a great gaming experience. That is why I figured a $1000 budget would be tough to pull off

A basic monitor should cost less than $200. A lot of people hate TN panels but they are extremely cheap and fine if you don't require high color accuracy or wide viewing angles.

I would strongly recommend building your own. It's not that hard - no more difficult than assembling Ikea furniture or building a Lego set. There are only a couple parts that are difficult at all. And you get a lot more for your money.

Like others said, check out General Hardware and read some threads there.

Sounds like you're not looking to build your own?

I have good experience with http://www.maxforcepc.com/ They can put together any configuration you want, to fit any budget. If you go the the forum you can also post your requirements there and they can tailor a system. edit: max can also overclock and stress test the system

When I was researching custom builders the comments I saw about the quality of cyberpower and ibuypower where not great..

Yeah, the fundamental question is build or buy. If you want to buy, try pricing something out at CyberPower and then posting it here for review. If you want to build, update this thread with the answers to the questions in the sticky (thanks GullyFoyle!).
